Tuesday news, part two:

Half-Life remake Black Mesa is almost ready for its 1.0 launch
https://www.pcgamer.com/half-life-remake-black-mesa-is-almost-ready-for-its-10-launch/
Black Mesa has been in development for so long you could be forgiven for forgetting that it wasn't already out. Originally released as a Half-Life 2 mod all the way back in 2012, it's been available in standalone form on Steam Early Access since 2015. But with the ambitious Xen chapters—which effectively serve as an expansion—pretty much finished, the full game will soon be given the 1.0 brand and released into the wild.

Torchlight Frontiers is now Torchlight 3, will release on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/torchlight-frontiers-is-now-torchlight-3-will-release-on-steam/
It's been a bit of a rocky road for the upcoming Torchlight game—developer Runic Games, maker of Torchlight and Torchlight 2, was closed 2017, and Torchlight Frontiers, the shared-world RPG being made at Echtra Games, was delayed from a 2019 release to 2020.
It's about time for some good news, then. Torchlight Frontiers is now Torchlight 3, and it's not just a simple change in title.

Apex Legends’ new character may have just murdered its other new character
https://www.pcgamer.com/apex-legends-new-character-may-have-just-murdered-its-other-new-character/
Electronic Arts recently revealed the next Apex Legends character as the metal-armed bruiser named Forge, which came as kind of a surprise for rumor-following fans who expected it to be the Lady Deathstrike-lookin' killer robot Revenant. Today we get a proper introduction to Forge's entry into the Apex games via a new "Stories from the Outlands" trailer, and I'm not going to spoil anything but you're definitely going to want to stick around to the end before you read any further.

Bethesda's fix for stolen Fallout 76 inventories is generous and complicated
https://www.pcgamer.com/bethesdas-fix-for-stolen-fallout-76-inventories-is-generous-and-complicated/
A number of Fallout 76 players found themselves stripped down to their skivvies last month, courtesy of a hack employed by unscrupulous Wastelanders that enabled them to swipe entire inventories from other players. Bethesda was able to fix the exploit fairly quickly, but restoring lost gear was another matter entirely.
For one reason or another, Bethesda wasn't able to simply put replacement gear into players' packs, and so it promised that it would figure out how to compensate players for their losses at some point down the road. The solution was revealed late last week by redditors including JedediahJedi and Boavisteiro (via Kotaku), and it's honestly quite a bit more complicated than I would have expected.

You're familiar with Hypercard, of course, the '80s/'90s Mac development tool that did hyperlinks before the World Wide Web. Resident Evil has made a few surprise detours over the years, but Resident Evil Resistance, which pits a group of Raccoon City teens against the likes of Mr. X, is one of the more unusual ones. It doesn't quite fit with the rest of the games, and according to Capcom it's not actually canon.

Kentucky Route Zero's last episode is finally out today
https://www.pcgamer.com/kentucky-route-zeros-last-episode-is-finally-out-today/
I bought Kentucky Route Zero years ago as a result of pretty much everyone telling me I needed it in my life. They weren't wrong. But after playing a bit and loving it, I decided to put it down until the launch of the final episode. Now it's the End of Days and my hair is grey, but at least Act V is almost upon us. It's coming today, seven years after the first episode launched.

"Kentucky Route Zero's last episode is finally out today"

Bloody hell, I thought that would never happen. It's very weird, yet really enjoyable experience, but I guess I would need to play it all from the beginning, it's been quite a while since the last episode, 2016 or something like that,

I've bought it and been playing Temtem for two days already. Best Pokémon game in decades :P

The Last of Us, God of War 3, LittleBigPlanet 3 and more run significantly faster now on the PC via RPCS3
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/the-last-of-us-god-of-war-3-littlebigplanet-3-and-more-run-significantly-faster-now-on-the-pc-via-rpcs3/
A few days ago, we shared a video in which the RPCS3 showcased a number of games running on the PC via the Playstation 3 emulator, RPCS3. And today, we are happy to report that this PS3 emulator can run various games faster than before.
Whatcookie, one of the RPCS3 contributors, has managed to significantly improve performance in a lot of games that use Morphological Anti-Aliasing (MLAA). This Anti-Aliasing method made use of the PS3’s CELL SPU cores to take load off the weak PS3 GPU to give it more time to push impressive visuals and was first used in God of War 3 back in 2010.
Whatcookie’s recent changes allow the RPCS3 team to patch SPU ELF’s directly. This allows them to patch multiple games, various game regions and versions without having to do them separately on a game-by-game basis. Sadly, the patch doesn’t work with every game that uses MLAA as some games load it in a way that cannot be patched yet.
For instance, the patch for The Last of Us, is actually one of those titles which cannot be patched with the new SPU Elf method. However, Whatcookie went ahead and patched the game specifically as well.
The following video showcases most of the PS3 games known to use MLAA that work with the patch. Some of the missed games include Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, which did see SPU usage decrease, however frame-rates didn’t change much. Motorstorm Apocalypse also saw a small performance improvement and probably a few more we missed.

You can now play as Geralt from The Witcher 3 in Resident Evil 2 Remake
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/you-can-now-play-as-geralt-from-the-witcher-3-in-resident-evil-2-remake/
A few days ago, we informed you about a mod that allowed you to play as Ciri from The Witcher 3 in Resident Evil 2 Remake. And today, we are happy to report that Wiwilz released a new mod, allowing you to play as Geralt in Capcom’s third-person horror title.
Contrary to the Ciri mod, it appears that there are facial animations for this Geralt mod. However, I’m not certain whether the lip-syncing is perfect here. For what it’s worth, the modder may add facial animations to the Ciri mod in a future version.
Furthermore, the mod will remove Leon’s head. This basically means that this mod is not compatible with the other DLC costumes, except Arklay Sheriff. Also, Geralt’s swords will stay on his back while wielding the knife.
You can download this The Witcher 3 Geralt mod for Resident Evil 2 Remake from here. Do note that you will need fluffyquack’s mod manager in order to install it.

Oops! Destiny 2's newest update is deleting rare enhancement materials
https://www.pcgamer.com/oops-destiny-2s-newest-update-is-deleting-rare-enhancement-materials/
Destiny 2 update 2.7.1 rolled out a little earlier today, making the usual sort of tweaks, bug fixes, and miscellaneous changes that come in hotfixes—it improved performance in the Chamber of Suffering part of the Pit of Heresy dungeon, for instance, and added a fix for a bug that was enabling Sunbreaker Titans to gain stacks of Roaring Flame by destroying Telesto projectiles. The full patch notes are here, if you want to dig down into it.
But it's also apparently doing more than just that. A seemingly substantial number of players are reporting on Reddit (here, and here, or this whole thing here, just to get you started) and Twitter that after the maintenance period ended, their glimmer, ascendant shards, enhancement prisms, and other materials were missing.
Update (6:30 pm ET): Bungie has shared more information about the upcoming fix, which will see all player accounts rolled back to the state they were in at around 8:30 am PT/11:30 pm ET on January 28.
Update (9:45 pm ET): Bungie has confirmed that rollback for player accounts is complete, and that the game will be back online at 7 PM PST (10 pm ET).

Unconventional fantasy MMO Crowfall gets a funding boost as it nears release
https://www.pcgamer.com/unconventional-fantasy-mmo-crowfall-gets-a-funding-boost-as-it-nears-release/
Amazon's New World is one of the most anticipated MMOs in recent memory, and in part I think that's because it hasn't been extensively documented in backer updates and years long alpha tests. The lack of a crowdfunding campaign (which Amazon obviously didn't need) lends it more mystery than competitors such as Crowfall, which was Kickstarted in 2015 and has been in various stages of pre-alpha testing for the past five years.
But if gangs of fantasy settlers building and defending forts interests you, Crowfall is worth your attention. On top of its millions in crowdfunding support, the game has recently drawn another $11.7 million from investors to support its final push into release. That'll start soon with a beta, which will be open to all backers, as well as non-backers who will be invited in waves (you can register on the official site).

Stylish horror-tactics game Othercide is looking for closed beta testers

This pay-what-you-want desert hike is pretty glitchy, but that seems to be intentional. Putting Garfield in The Elder Scrolls: Arena was a mistake
https://www.pcgamer.com/putting-garfield-in-the-elder-scrolls-arena-was-a-mistake/
If you've played an Elder Scrolls game you probably know about the Khajiit. They're a cat-like people. Essentially large cats standing on two legs. Fur, tail, the lot. But in The Elder Scrolls: Arena, the first game in the series, the Khajiit look like humans. Unless you install a certain mod.
If you wanted to make the Khajiit in The Elder Scrolls: Arena look more like cats, you have a huge selection to choose from. Cats are all over the internet because they're cute. But the maker of the mod All Khajits are 1978 Garfield chose not to go for one of the obvious images of a cat.
Instead, we get the lasagne-loving Garfield from the original comics. Specifically, his smug and fat-cheeked head, plopped on top of the game's original Khajiit model. That's already quite the sight, a cartoon cat's head on an athletic human-like body, but the modder went further. The finishing touch is making the Khajiit's skin colour the same carrot sick orange as Garfield's fur. There's something disturbing about seeing Garfield with pecs.

Dwarf Fortress introduces interrogations and lets dwarves have multiple partners
https://www.pcgamer.com/dwarf-fortress-introduces-interrogations-and-lets-dwarves-have-multiple-partners/
You better make sure your artefacts in Dwarf Fortress are locked away somewhere safe. Don't listen to my advice if you want, but don't come crying to me when a villain sneaks into your fortress and steals your precious goods.

The return of Trials of Osiris to Destiny 2 in Season 10 has been datamined
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-return-of-trials-of-osiris-to-destiny-2-in-season-10-has-been-datamined/
Dataminers have discovered key details on Destiny's next big seasonal update. The new season will arrive on March 9, seemingly under the 'Season of the Worthy' moniker. In addition to some new community events, it sounds like Season 10 will bring back Destiny's hardcore PvP mode, Trials of Osiris, as has been heavily hinted.

Stoneshard launch trailer shows off the Diablo-meets-Darkest Dungeon roguelike
https://www.pcgamer.com/stoneshard-launch-trailer-shows-diablo-meets-darkest-dungeon-roguelike/
We got our first look at the turn-based roguelike Stoneshard back in 2017, when it was still very early in development. It appeared to be a retro-styled cross between Diablo and Darkest Dungeon, blending loot-focused hack-and-slash through randomized isometric dungeons with a complex injury system ("profoundly punishing" is how Austin described it) and a need to manage pain, intoxication, phobias, and sanity.

Dead Cells' first paid DLC, The Bad Seed, is coming in February
https://www.pcgamer.com/dead-cells-first-paid-dlc-the-bad-seed-is-coming-in-february/
After 16 free updates following its Early Access debut in 2017, most recently the Legacy Update that brought back the good old days of earlier versions, the Metroidvania-inspired roguelike Dead Cells is about to get its first paid DLC. Set to arrive on February 11, The Bad Seed will add two new early-game biomes filled with distinctive creatures, and a "conceptually unique armory" to help deal with them (including the game's fist double-slot weapon), and a new mushroom companion.

Free survival horror Alisa is Resident Evil with murderous dolls
https://www.pcgamer.com/free-survival-horror-alisa-is-resident-evil-with-murderous-dolls/
If Resident Evil were set in a doll's house, it might look something like Alisa—The Awakening, which swaps zombies for murderous life-size dolls, but keeps the shooting and the puzzling, and is set in a very similar creepy mansion.

Halo Forge on PC is making 'great progress,' gets first screenshot
https://www.pcgamer.com/halo-forge-on-pc-is-making-great-progress-gets-first-screenshot/
Since Halo: Reach landed by drop pod on PC back in December I've been hankering for one particular missing feature — Forge mode. I spent hours in it as a teenager, piecing together absurdly dangerous gauntlets, which I'd watch my friends run through from afar, laughing darkly with my hands steepled. I was undoubtedly the Jigsaw Killer of my Halo clan. Every group had one, surely?

Public sign puzzler The Pedestrian is out on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/public-sign-puzzler-the-pedestrian-is-out-on-steam/
My experience with public signage is limited. Either I'm ignoring signs at my own expense, or imagining the fright of being the road worker who has to place the 'Lane Closed' sign in front of oncoming motorway traffic. But now The Pedestrian is out I have another, much safer way to interact with signs.

Slay the Spire fans should jump aboard Monster Train
https://www.pcgamer.com/slay-the-spire-fans-should-jump-aboard-monster-train/
Monster Train is familiar until you find out where its battles are held. It takes the card shuffling, dungeon dashing challenge of games like Slay the Spire and Griftlands, and throws it all aboard a fast-moving train. Choo choo!

Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders is coming soon to PC
https://www.pcgamer.com/kingdom-under-fire-the-crusaders-is-coming-soon-to-pc/
It took ten years for Kingdom Under Fire 2 to come to PC, and it was almost worth the wait. We won't have quite that much of a wait for Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders: Developer Blueside announced today that the action-RTS, first released in 2004 for the original Xbox, is coming soon to PC.

Iron Danger is an RPG that lets you rewind time to avoid death
https://www.pcgamer.com/iron-danger-is-an-rpg-that-lets-you-rewind-time-to-avoid-death/
Imagine if Diablo let you rewind time to dodge or block the attack that killed you. That seems to be the elevator pitch for Iron Danger. This new tactical RPG being published by Daedalic Entertainment is coming to Steam on March 25, and the trailer above makes it look worth a punt.
