The Middle east also has a huge huge huge huge gaming community. Majority are Playstation users.

I can personally attest to this.

Can you speak to genres or series that are popular in the middle east? What would be a big system seller there?

Skip to 5:20 mark after watching the first 10 seconds. Then skip to 21:30.

This is just one event in one city. Gives you an idea of the numbers of people who are willing to turn up to a gaming convention (around 50,000). Like i said, HUGE.

lol Sony was expecting 5 to 10 thousand visitors, instead they got 30 to 50 thousand so they had to cancel the show cuz there was no room to do anything :D

To do a WW launch they must be gearing up for a massive launch. If they were short on consoles, they would probably only go for the Big 3 (Japan/Europe/NA).

I wonder how many consoles they will actually release before years end. Should be a rather massive number.

It's WW... even Brazil is day one launch

Sony is having a good mass production response... they expect to reach 1 million units producted per month in September.

I've heard from multiple people that Sony has just begun production for ps4.  Have you or anyone else heard this?  They have to be gearing for a massive launch.

Yeah... they started this month... I'm guessing at least 3 million units shipped for the launch week.

Nice!  Is this normal to start this early for a console launch?  And has MS started as well?

@nnodley,

It doesn't seem like Microsoft has, at least there is nothing to confirm it has thus far.

It shouldn't come as a surprise though, Sony i think was more ready for the next generation to begin, as we saw with the early reveal in february this year, also Sony is a hardware company so it's only logical that they'de be more ready for the launch of a piece of hardware. Same reason why the PS4 is so small while packing even more power than the Xbox One.

It's normal to start at least three month before the launch to have a good supply in the channel... so starting this month open a windows to Sony even launch in October if they want.

When you have issues in the production and just start the massive production then you delay this mass production until 45 days before the release to try to fix the issues to try not loose money (in that case you can make a massive production with issues but the numbers of parts (chips) per wafer will be low... that means more expensive to production... so you will loose money). But when you delay until 45 days before the launch you will have little time to produce high quantities... so you will have supply issues at launch.

I don't know about MS because they were having production issues with the APU... even the developers didn't have the devkit based in the final Xbone hardware at E3... they had a PC windows version of the devkit.

Hmm, alright thanks.  I'm hoping Sony can set a launch in October for ps4.

That's just wrong!

lol, the way you're saying it that is. ''even'' Brazil?

Brazil is a big market nowadays and will only continue to grow.

It's the first time we are getting a console at the same time the major markets will receive it.

Usually we get them years later and at twice the price.

Right, found an article from 2011:

We estimate an installed base of around 650,000 PS2 owners, around 235,000 PSP owners and around 100,000 PS3 owners [from launch through 2011]. In terms of addition on an annual basis, PS2 is still the largest base but PS3 is leapfrogging very fast. With the recent re-pricing of the PSP at Rs 7,990, the sales have actually doubled for us.

I imagine that PS3 is much higher now than it was a couple of years back whilst the PS2 base hasn't grown as much.

I expect that due to the lower price (PS3 cost $1000 in India at launch) of PS4 we'll see a much quicker adoption rate in India compared to PS3.

If it is coming to South Africa, India & the Middle East then a Japan 2013 launch is almost assured

Japan is not a guarantee because Japanese people don't buy home consoles anymore
