Forums - Gaming - This Generation is all about Exclusivity vs. Ownership.

Or you could pick up a Wii U, have the most exclusives, full ownership AND not have to pay for online multiplayer.

Ding ding! Correct!

This is desperation from Xbox apologists. The PS3 had alot more quality and number of exclusives than the 360 ever did. PS4 will have more exclusives than the Xbox one will have. Its hilarious cause theres no competition at all here.

Nintendo will also be profiting from this whole situation.

This will be a little long-winded so bear with me.

Fanboy-ism or console loyalty aside, hardware comparisons aside, and other non-essential opinions aside, there is only one issue that will determine this console war: Exclusivity vs. Ownership.

Let me explain. As things stand right now, PS4 lets you pretty much own your (disc) games and do whatever you want with them (aside from multiplayer-only games), while XboxOne seems to have more exclusives on show (for the moment), and we can expect third party publishers to want in on that (that level of DRM makes it much harder to pirate, and since it limits the used game market, more new game sales are inevitable).

...

2. Microsoft secures all its shit, gets big third party exclusives, and delivers on all its promises, then XboxOne wins. Sony is promising something that already exists. There's nothing new here. Sure, the PS4 is currently (and I mean currently) the choice of most people on the internet. But not everyone cares about that used games stuff. In the long run, if Microsoft's servers always hold up, then it'll potentially become like Steam, and dominate the console industry.

..

let's start with your "for the momet" bit.  you already screwed over most of your argument right there.  sony said they'll have 20 first party exclusives year 1 while MS said 15.   sony has shown a ton of indie titles coming to ps4 first (aka timed exlclusive) and some of them are saying they  won't release on xbone.  sony has exclusive content in 40 third party games.

so "for the moment" means you have no point.  we're just waiting for the announcement which sony did had a plan at E3 - nullify a ton of xbox's game announcements with a simple "we dont have DRM" statement.  now at ever following conference sony has more to show and will win again. ..and again.  ..and again.

secondly i really don't think you've done your reserach if you don't think sony is doing anything new.  MS has smartglass; sony does that too.  MS has their family share; sony said i can invite anyone into join my game to either play with me or even play for me.  MS has skype video calling; sony showed that too.  both have social integration.  both can share game videos.  both can play netflix and other apps. kinect vs. playstation eye/move.

what other than live tv has MS shown that sony didn't show first?   ..and to that point sony had their entertainment divsion make a generic statement of we're coming so for all we know there thing will be even cooler.

i mean, you understand that you can go full digital with all of the full digital benefits on ps4 right?  the difference is on ps4 digital is a choice not a mandate.

throw on a lower price point and a waaaaaaay better PR job and i think MS is going to get skooled at retail.
