I don't feel sorry for a company that pushes limitations on consumers.

I'd like to see them spin themselves out of the DRM/online mess. For consumers sake.

Had both been 399 I would have gone X1 but seeing as I live in Sweden and that the X1 price is going to blow out of proportion with all the taxes and shit I am leaning towards a PS4(and not a new PC) for only one reason - The Division.

My friend who works at Massive is extremely glad they finally showed it and seriously that game will propably tie BF4 for me for being the best MP 2013/2014

As soon as X1 hits 300€ I am getting it but at 499€ I really dont Think it's Worth any European's Money

MS might well find themselves forced into the first pre launch price cut ever !!!!

That bad feeling the OP has is called pity

PS4 is the winner. Microsoft just owned themselves, talk about a company that has no clue what market to put their machine in! Microsoft are masters at confusing a market, they have done it with Xbone, window 8 in the last few months. Sony is THE games machine this gen, although I still think this will be the last generation of game consoles

"...the best way to prepare [to be a programmer] is to write programs, and to study great programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and fished out listings of their operating system." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

"Hey, Steve, just because you broke into Xerox's house before I did and took the TV doesn't mean I can't go in later and take the stereo." - Bill Gates (Microsoft Corporation)

Bill Gates had Mac prototypes to work from, and he was known to be obsessed with trying to make Windows as good as SAND (Steve's Amazing New Device), as a Microsoft exec named it. It was the Mac that Microsoft took for its blueprint on how to make a GUI.

""Windows [n.] - A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.""

While at e3 ms had a better game conference, at this milestone in time, its quite clear who's on top.

Console size is a 4.4 to 7 ratio almost 3/5ths the size
You own your games
No drm
No always on req
No mandatory camera
Main function still works in every country
Is 100 $ cheaper
Ps+ is arguably the most valu laden online
Has stronger hardware
Has announced nearly the same number of exclusives
Have 5 more first party games coming first year than ms
Used games
Lending
Paywall is only for multiplayer
No internet requirements for games

Microsoft will have a very successful platform with the XBox One. You need to be a child to not see that. They will sell well in North America, they will make money off Halo and Forza, they will endure easily for the coming gen, even competitively.

What just happened was that they were not offered the next gen on a silver platter. They have been offered the pole position after the XBox 360, same as Sony after the PlayStation 2, and decided to take very big leap of faith in trying to reshape an industry model that is right now very comfortable to everyone, one that focuses on the company's needs, real or fabricated. How that will pan out, it's anyone's guess.
What some people are forgetting though is that consoles have been, are and will continue to be TOYS. As many features as you want to cram in, they are essentially toys and the need for them will be driven by a younger generation, one that is already growing accustomed to not owning their content, to phone games that can't be traded, to micro-transactions as part of their normal gaming life. They won't care that they can't lend a game of CoD Ghosts to a friend because they'll play it multiplayer and each of them will already own it.

So no, I don't feel bad for Microsoft. They are far, FAR from being in a bad position, certainly not one that would prove problematic for them. Sony knows the market better than Microsoft outside of America and they have capitalized on that knowledge and on the growing anti-user fears. It has played out for them, for now, and it just remains to be seen if they can ride this wave as far as they can.

Also, I'm calling it now, Microsoft will not back out of ANY of the features announced for the XBox One. They certainly don't see Sony as a threat in this regard, same as they didn't see them as a threat with the free online play. Any weakness shown by Microsoft will only serve to hurt their stocks I imagine, so to all those that think they'll drop the DRM / No-used games scheme...you are very wrong, sorry.

Comparing a $60 AAA gaming experience with a 99c app is probably the stupidist thing I've heard for a while.

That's because you're not thinking large scale and big picture. Kids that grow up with these models and for whom parents buy their games will never see this as a problem down the line, it'll become a normal practice for them. You think this sort of stuff doesn't go into the subconsciou of a gaming generation? You think kids growing up with an XBox One don't get used to things being that way? Mark my words, as apologists are already crowding to defend these practices, so will a new generation.

They dug their own hole.

I dont feel the least bit sorry and no one else should. They tried to rape us relentelessly. Why would i feel sorry when the company that tries to rape me gets punched in the face? They deserved it.

If this next gen would end tomorrow, I probably would agree with you but this will be a long battle and what people care about today might not be the case tomorrow. The thing is, can the X1 be that end all device that has great games and great features. Price isn't everything and a lot of people I talk to really do not care about DRM. Its way to early to announce MS demise but I would say that they will have to give up something in order to fight the negative press. Starting games on X1 40 bucks probably would be a good start.

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to drop the console under the PS4?

@Nem... FFS dude? Rape? Come on...

I don't. They got very arrogant and deserve all the negative feedback and hopefully their sales will suffer too. The only bad thing to come from this is that there will less competition for Sony and we need competition.
