4J Studios made some revelations about Minecraft: Xbox One Edition following the game's announcement at Microsoft's E3 press conference on Monday.
The developer confirmed that it is working on the Xbox One version of Minecraft along with the Xbox 360 version. Additionally, it promised that it will continue to release updates to the current-gen version even after the Xbox One Edition launches. However, 4J Studios says it is too early for a release date yet so no idea if it will come out this year or 2014.
The one intriguing bit of news is that 4J Studios says it is currently in talk with Microsoft to transfer worlds made in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition to Minecraft: Xbox One Edition. The Xbox LIVE cloud saves would likely have to be involved some how but there are other obstacles with the transfer beyond simply moving it from one system to another.
The biggest hurdle is likely the fact that the Xbox 360 version has a fixed map size because of memory limitations with the console. 4J Studios would have to code for that to make sure the Xbox One Edition could properly handle the file and upgrade it what will likely be an unlimited map size like the PC.
Hopefully, 4J Studios and Microsoft will reveal more details soon.
