Forums - Gaming - Xbox 360 has more core gamers than the PS3

Do you agree

Yes 99 22.20%

No 300 67.26%

Wii does (see results) 47 10.54%

Total:446

The early launch certainly helped with the misc. games department with 360 moving a good amount of Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. Then the enterance of kinect helped fill out the roster. Not sure this catagory really counts as core.

I once asked a man what a "core gamer" was, and he gave me this definition.

"One who has a genuine interest in video games and who buys video games on a relatively constant basis."

Hole in the theory:

Does it make me a hardcore player if I only play CoD games or only FF games or only Halo games or religiously follow every single title and spin off of any other steeply milked franchise ?

So no, a good customer is not necessarily a hardcore gamer. A loyal WoW subscriber for example, he puts in more game hours than most of us. I wouldn't call him a hardcore gamer if WoW accounts for most of the stuff he plays.

I made that point in another thread awhile back and got ridiculed for saying if u only play specific franchise ur not a hardcore gamer just a hardcore fan of that specific game. There rebuttle was that the definition of hardcore is that u play one hour of gaming per day, regardless of what game.

I think a gamer has to have an open mind to different genres and plays games that are good regardless of what system its on.

Looking at the facts, does this mean the 360 has more core gamers, contrary to popular belief? Maybe you don't think attach ratio is an effectively way to measure a core gamer? If so, why not?

According to http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/Tie-Ratio/Global/  PS3 has a higher attach ratio in NA and X360 a higher attach ratio in Europe/Japan.

I don't believe that PS3 has more core gamers in NA and X360 more core gamers in Japan? Do you?

It makes sense that the consoles have higher attach rates in less popular areas. Here, they aren't the mainstream consoles and thus have less casual gamers, meaning the core takes up a larger proportion of the install base.

In the case of the PS3 in NA, and 360 in Japan/Eu, that doesn't mean they have more core gamers, because the higher proportion of core gamers is not enough to counter the large install base deficit. However, speaking in world wide terms, the two consoles are literally statistically tied in terms of install base; so if one does have a larger proportion of core gamers, then that would imply more core gamers overall as well.

Its not a logical conclusion. The 360 cand have fewer core gamers that just happen to buy more games than the average core. In the same line of thought it may be that non-core gamers jusr seem to buy a few more games than the average non-corr ps3. But, more likely its because 360 retail games seem to always be cheaper/drop price first.

Did people miss my post about most PS360 owners buying multiconsole titles for 360 while exclusives only on PS3 because of all the poor pots.  That's another reason the PS3 has less overall game sales.

PS3 or 360 fan, I think both sides can agree that the PS3 had a lot of poor ports so a lot of people purchased the 360 versions.  You may even know some people who buy multiconsole titles only on the 360 yet own both consoles.
