Looking at the facts, does this mean the 360 has more core gamers, contrary to popular belief? Maybe you don't think attach ratio is an effectively way to measure a core gamer? If so, why not?

According to http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/Tie-Ratio/Global/  PS3 has a higher attach ratio in NA and X360 a higher attach ratio in Europe/Japan.

I don't believe that PS3 has more core gamers in NA and X360 more core gamers in Japan? Do you?

But see, is anyone actually buying a PS3 for this stuff?  Not as much as people buy 360's for Kinect, that's for sure.  Sony may have wanted it to go the same way, but it didn't.

Dude, Sony totally wanted to go that way. Just watch the advertisement and stuff.

I understand that.  I said it myself.  But releasing these products and all this promotional material is not the same as it actually happening.  I don't know a single soul who's even touched a Move controller or a Wonderbook, but I know tons of people who bought 360's for Kinect.  I'm trying to communicate that it just didn't go the way Sony wanted.  They didn't score on the same casual market that Microsoft did.

Well, there's a fair amount of sales for Gunstringer and Child of Eden, so I'd say even with Kinect there's core gamers indeed.

Well the PlayStation Move has sold over 15 million units compared to 24 million for the Kinect. So I wouldn't say that it didn't go the way Sony wanted.

Based on your question I voted for the wii.
Also, following to this site, the ps3 outsold the x360 for 7 straight weeks now.

I do not know to buy a 360 in Japan you have to be pretty hardcore

Microsoft has a better attach rate for the most part because it came out first and because its most core audience are shooter fans. These fans go out buy all the Halo's, Call of Duty and Gears of War games they can.

And RPG, haven't you look at the sales of Dragon Age, Skyrim and Fallout? Check your facts.

PS3 and 360  have 12 RPG that sold over 1 million.

360 26 at over .5 million PS3 25. Top 25 RPG sales on each console not equal to the sales of top 6 COD games.

Not exactly a ton of love there.

12 different RPGs > one shooter franchise (COD). (check the sales of COD on Ps3 as well).

I would call that core, my friend. The fact that a saga has a strong fanbase doesn't mean that the users of the console can't play other things.

360 had more categories and more million sellers overall PS3 had less shooters a little more diversity in racers, fighters, platformers, action and adventure games.

Right now I think it is just too close to call.

It's hard to tell indeed. The 360 has 15 misc =/  and almost the same as in fighters.

I can accept that shooters tend to sell better on Xbox, but I think the core is not focused on that genre.
