Forums - Sony - Sony PR: PS4 No DRM Campaign 'Working Pretty Well'

Does that mean games are all free to pirate on PS4

Used and pirate are not the same thing.

Pirating no longer works while connected to the internet, wich is required when you want to shop for digital only releases or play multiplayer.

Thus pirating comes at the cost of game and convenience features. Not very incentivating is it?

Reminds me of the Occupy Movement. It will fizzle the same way.

Wait for E3, then Sony will have to let their plans known. I doubt they will be non-DRM. Even if they wanted to do, they probably can't because of their dependence on 3rd party.

that dependence is bilateral - 3rd parties depend on Sony's power to sell consoles/gain install base just as much as Sony depends on 3rd parties to keep a constant flow of quality software going

There's also the problem that both the Xbone and the PS4 have an architecture very similar to the PC. This will make both consoles relatively "easy" to hack, which is probably one of the biggest reason why MS is having "always online", and why Sony might follow suit.

Really good and wonderful that Sony isn't ignoring us gamers :) (Gaf deserved our thanks as well)

By the way, why aren't Microsoft fans protesting as well i wonder!?

Sony isn't doing anything, just mid level employees saying "we hear you". That means nothing and yet ppl like you eat it up.

A good chunk of the protesting is from Xbox fans.......on every gaming news site on the internet.......for the past week and counting.....wtf you must have been joking with that.

As much as I would like to believe its all Sony fans who wouldnt buy Xbox 1 anyways, its Xbox fans who just want better.

Employees wouldn't be saying anything at all if this campaign was doing nothing. Obviously since these Sony employees are speaking out about this and not ignoring, means that they are doing something about it. It does mean something. It means a lot and it is encouraging for those looking for a DRM-free next-gen console.

I look forward to Sony's E3 press confrence.

How big is this huge chunck of Xbox fans protesting? What are the numbers? How did you know they are simply protesting to get something better for the Xbone and not because they are ready to jump ship? Show me proof that demonstrates this.

@Bolded: Agree completely. Can't blame Xbox fans for wanting something better than what they were shown in the reveal.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

But I was told by some x1 apologists that opinions on gaming sites and social media were of such a minority they couldn't effect mass market sales.

Load of crap obviously social media is massive and companies do not ignore it.

I also know Sony aren't daft even if there was no system wide DRM in the first place they'd still let this viral campaign run riot as they can make out they listen and care.

A lot of sales sales and market share can be had by winning the hearts and minds on social media.

If EA pulls support for PS4 (they seem to be the biggest ones pushing for it that would actually be willing to try to force the console makers) Sony could just demonize them and Xbox and advertise themselves as the good guys.  I can only imagine all the media that would get and how much positivity it would generate for Playstation as a whole.  Sure they would lose some hardcore Madden and Fifa guys, but would gamers really follow a company that was so blatant if Sony really hammered the point home?  The bottom line is EA has made plenty of money this gen and they don't have always online or no used games so if Sony really put their foot down would EA be willing to bet the farm on MS (remember they don't have any WiiU games in the works) and PC?  I don't think that will be profitable for them.

EA have no hold over MS, EA are going down hill fast boycotting Sony and losing half there market would destroy them completley. Ea played there last trump cards along time ago.
