My thread from almost exactly a year ago that details (foretells) this exact same scenario.

Apple - 100% right so far
Google - 100% right so far
MS - absolutely 100% accurate.
Sony - 100% right so far (I even predicted the vita connection and streaming content)
Nintendo- substantially right, but the new unforeseen DRM issue is plaguing 3rd party support and clearly the Android rumor was wrong, BUT they did bring in their own apps and socialization to dramatically increase the non-gaming features.

If the future of the gaming industry is not gaming... then that would be the end of the industry... I'm confused here @_@

Surely Video Chat is better than Gaming... so long as it's with a hot person*, preferably without clothing!

*Girl for me, but straight girls and gay guys I'm sure would prefer it was with a hot guy and I won't exclude that fantasy for them!

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

So gaming has no future then

I'm excited for the Xbox One cuz of its features. As gamers age, gaming time decreases. So by creating a media hub, we older gamers will continue to buy console and games. Very smart business decision.

Speak for yourself. I'm 39, and the only thing decreasing is tv viewing time. I haven't watched live tv since '04 and watch less and less programming via pvr. So yes smart business decision promoting tv, not.

Good thing the PS4 is more than just a gaming device huh? Here's a pic of multi-tasking on the PS4. The PS4 will have a clean, simple user interface just like the Xbox One. It really just will come down to the marketing and if the people being marketed to will care enough to drop the $500.

To be fair, while I dont care for all the extras sony added in necessarily besides the gameplay recording, all sony's new features were built as ways to improve gaming in the social aspects especially.

Microsoft's new features improve TV watching ability. I don't even watch TV anymore. To be fair, this probvably means that microsoft can now make more money from advertisment revenue but it may be a hard sell to people who either want dedicated gaming devices without the extras or those who want the TV stuff without the gaming as customers will be paying for both features while utilizing only one.

You were wrong about Apple. The new iPhone or even iPad are still nowhere near PS360 levels.

The Sony prediction was also off. Either weaker than Wii U or close to the next Xbox.

When I was single and 19 all I cared about was Games. All I spent every penny on was games.

Now I'm married, 2 daughters and am a Manager of a Restaraunt on a good wage. My priorities have completed shifted. My gaming time is less, and my girls as they are growing increasingly want to play to. Kinect was actually brilliant for me and my kids. As was Skylanders.

If anything I'm very multimedia focused now. As we have Android and WP8 in my house. Windows 8 PC's, Galaxy tabs and a PS3 and 360.

Xbox One looks to allow me to have 1 box for everything. My Sky will be on it, my gaming, my Cloud stuff like SkyDrive. Apps, Facebook, twitter, Internet Explorer, Digital content etc etc. The list goes on. And I can change from 1 ting to another without any other devices or controllers. That is very welcome in my family home.

As I have got older ( I'm 30 ;( ) Gaming is still important but so are other things. Microsofts Xbox One appeals much more to me as a package. I cant justify spending out for a PS4 if Xbox One offers my family a better all round box. And still I get to play my type of core games as well as family ones.

Uh, no. XBox One is NOT a dvr. You still need your settop box. And god forbid your XBox One does not understand your settop box (because you grabbed that really cheap offer on joesweeklydeal.co.uk)... And if you really want to piss off your family, tell them they now have to watch tv with only 1/16th of the screen because of Halo 67..

i don't like that future :(
