So I recently commented on a guy saying how "Microsoft already has the biggest 1st party title ever created for any platform (halo series)" and I said that he is wrong and that GT has a series sale of 70 million vs 50 million for the Halo series. I also mentioned that mario on the wii destroyed halo and I never got a reply about that. And then they go on about business points as typical xbox fanboys do. So now what do you guys think? Which in fact is the bigger franchise?
here is the conversation:
Xbox Fanboy:
To be fair take away 20 million of those sales from GT since they were sold in the PS1 days. Halo wasn't around to compete same with Mario.
Then if you really want to assess value look at the sales trends through the most recent years. Racing as a genre has been on a decline, to place the same value in GT as I would a Halo I would need to see more games released. Halo releases a good amount of games and they all sell well meaning the genre and franchise is not fatiguing. GT has released 2 this gen one did 10 mil the other around 5 mil. It hasn't really challenged the market to get tired of it.
ME:
My reply to the fanboy was because he claimed halo as the biggest 1st party franchise EVER which is total bs. Still Mario kart, the galaxy's, and Mario's bros. All destroyed halos sales this gen. Well see about gran turismo when #6 comes out to decide on the factor of the "falling" racing genre. Facts are facts unless halo does 20 more million it's still sold less than gt thus not the biggest 1st party franchise EVER.
Xbox Fanboy:
I approach these things as if I was doing an analysis to have someone invest. You are one of those people you gotta look out for because you would make the person lose money presenting non linear facts and cherry picked logic.
If someone asked what franchise is the biggest because I want to invest. If you said Mario thats understandable Mario is a classic franchise that has sold lots of games in the past and has continued. There are other factors to why Mario games sell so well but nothing that is in question of changing.
Halo is a super franchise it has sold well since its inception and has as of recent meaning the current generation moved over 40 million units across 6 games. That is consistency and something you cant really give GT this gen because Though they sold 15 million its only done it with 2 games over a 7-8 year console cycle. Not saying its bad but just that it hasnt really attacked the market. If they really started trying push the game it could lose some of its strength were Halo and Mario clearly havent.
ME:
Then why are u on this site? This is a site for gamers not businessmen. Xbox fanboys like yourself seem to be a lot more interested in the business points of MS and Sony than the gaming points of them. And I NEVER claimed gran turismo is the biggest franchise ever as the other guy blatantly stated that halo is.
