Forums - Politics - Atheism is nothing... and theism is practically almost nothing.

Atheism is a negation.  It isn't anything, but a lack of something.  If one wants to discuss whether or not atheists together do anything of value or harm, one has to look to some sort of compatible and unifying belief system and social structures, ot see what good or harm comes about.  For example, Randian Objectivism which is atheistic, would be at odds with atheistic communism.  And then there is western secularism, and that is an entirely different beast.  One would need to see what compatible non-theistic belief system is bought into, to see if it produces atheism.

In regards to theism, merely believing there is divinity says nothing of its shape, form, demands, or benefits bestowed for connecting with it.  So, on a practical level, theism is pretty useless also.  People who say  "I believe in God" but mean "They believe God exists" have something that is next to totally useless.
