Forums - Gaming - What is bigger- Zelda or Fable

Played every single Fable game at launch, never played any Zelda games.

Zelda is bigger by far. It's hard to find someone who had a childhood in the western world and been exposed to consoles who haven't heard of Zelda or played it at one point(Me being an exception lul) but a lot easier to find kids who have never heard of Fable before despite even owning MS consoles.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Fable is not very known. Most people never heard the name Fable or associate a game with it..

Yet it sells better than "way better known" Zelda. You can't explain that, unless you count NES and N64 sales (very "smart" move btw).

Its just one game in the franchise. I would say its a "smart" move to disregard all sales of a franchise and look just at one game.

By that logic Mario is weaker than Halo since Halo 4 sold more than NSMBU.

You would not count today Sonic Megadrive sales are you? They are irrelevant.

Well, if we are talking not about all Mario games, but NSMB franchise - it is surely worn out and dont appeal to people anymore.

Fable 2 & 3 sold that well due to mass bundling. I remember Fable 3 adding around 1.5 million during its xmas holidays bundle with Halo: Reach (digital). The main Fable trilogy would average around 2.5-3.5m per game without bundling, which is great. Zelda is a bigger series though, that said it seems to be losing popularity since 2006 with every game selling less and less (yes, I'm including handheld).

Skyward sword outsold Spirit tracks so every game isn't sell less and less.

I would count Zelda total sales on all platforms from the year Fable released first (2004). To see which franchise is stronger

You are too quick to judge. If Zelda is indeed the weaker franchise we will see it in the next Fable vs Zelda games. Zelda definetly has the bigger mindshare no doubt about it. And a franchise can pick up again. One game selling bad doesn't mean the franchise is dead just that the game was not good enough. And since Zelda is a classic franchise people will pay attention if a new one releases and if its good it will sell again.

If you would make an auction for the rights of Zelda or Fable do you really think the Industry would pay more for the Fable name ?

Both medium franchises.

But today Fable > Zelda in sales but Zelda is bigger in name.

Zelda was never a huge seller franchise BTW... it is a niche game like Metroid.

with Zelda it is always the same, the first game on the new consoles sells really well, the second one the worst, especially when an accessoires is needed like Expension Pack back in the N64 days for Majoras Mask and Wii Motion Plus for Skyward Sword.

So... How will this effect the WW remake and Zelda U?

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Wind Waker HD will sell less then the Wii U game, that's for sure. In the end it is still a remake.

We need wait to Z:WW HD release. You will see, no more than 2m in 2 years. Most likely 1.5m sales.

Dunno. Look at Zelda sales. This franchise really overstimated because of the media buzz. And yet, nobody really buying it except hardcore Nintendo fans.

Yeah, I figure as much myself, but it's still an interesting case since we have this "Zelda rule" that you mentioned ;) It's kinda like how a cat always lands on its feet, but if you tied a sandwich on the cats back with the butter turned up...
