Forums - Sony - Sony apologizes for PS Vita stock shortages (Now with Media Create!)

I noticed earlier today that the Red & Blue Vita's were in the top 10 bestselling products in videogames on amazon.jp. They've gone up and down during the day, but as of the time of writing this the Red Vita is #09 and the Blue Vita is #12.

It's not too often you get hardware in the bestseller list unless it's a LE bundle (at least since I've been checking the site) so I'd hazard a guess that this is a sign that amazon got new stock and there's an early surge of popularity for it. We'll have to see how much that translates into real-world sales on Wednesday, but hopefully it provides somewhat of a boost.

Yep there's reports from many stores about getting stock in for the Red and Blue models today. Sofmap is saying it might sell out again though, and don't know when the next shipment will be, so it might not be a huge shipment. Biccamera is also saying the supply is limited. Amazon is already out of Blue, and say the Red will be in stock on the 22nd. Still no word on White model.

There's something seriously limiting Sony's capacity to manufacture the device. If I had to hazard a guess it would be that the screen is a limiting factor.

Also I recently read an analysis on why the 3G model was selling poorly in Japan compared to the WiFi. Besides the higher previous price, it's still less popular despite being cut to the same price as WiFi model. Apparently people associate the 3G model with a monthly fee, in some cases thinking it's a requirement similar to a cellphone contract. Sony hasn't made it clear enough that the dataplan is optional and doesn't require a visit to a service provider, or a contract, to use.
