Forums - Sony - Sony's FY2012 Earnings: $458m Profit (FY); 3.4m PS3+PS2 (Q4); 1.3m PSV+PSP (Q4)

The new fixed Game Division profit/loss table.

* There are two FY not related to Game Division only: FY2009 and FY2010... so there numbers are not accurate... eg. the Game Division FY2008 had $580m loss but in the FY2009 documents the NPS Division (where you have the Game Division merged) showed for FY2008 $900m loss.

What that means? Means that the just $580m loss of the NPS Division come from Game Division... the $320m loss was atrributed to others products like Vaio that are merged into NPS

So I guee the loss in FY2009 is lower than what show NPD Division and the profit in FY2010 is bigger than what showed NPD Division *

PS3 R & D was so much. I was going to make a thread about this but then I got lazy. How much R & D do you suppose is spent on next gen consoles? More then Previous console? About the same? Depends on console?

Is this right? From NeoGaf:

Sony's debt

Long-term debt

2012: 748,689b Y
2013: 915,032b Y
2013: 9,734b$

They added another $1.7 billion is debt? How are they even doing that?

Sony seems to be conceeding the Vita is a flop judging by their sales forecast for it.

This is long-term debt but th short-term debt decreased in almost the same ($1.7b).

They are just fixing the problems and that seems to be working... they have to do that.

So basically they still managed to add almost $2 billion in debt even after selling those two huge buildings? WTF ... they're like a debt magnet or something.

They also acquired a lot of businesses - Olympus, So-Net, Gaikai, Sony Ericsson. Anything else to add?

I'm glad you changed this.  Because I was looking at the last FY numbers and I thought "$2.8 billion loss can't be right".

Did Sony mention the PS2 being down? I read they said only the PS2 wasn't down.

They said nothing about that but for the fiscal years PS3 + PS2 were down... just in the last quarter PS3 + PS2 were up.

Ok thanks, so how much of that do you think belonged to PS3

Sony only shipped 900k in 4th quarter the previous year. I think it's generous to say the Ps2 matched that each quarter (though I have no clue why it would) putting the ps2 at 3.6mil and ps3 at 12.8mil. 1.1mil down YoY is reasonable considering they expect only 10mil ps3's this year. And if you think about it Sony would need to expect normal YoY drops in that number PLUS drops because of the Ps4/720 competition. So basically the drops they would incur this year will be greater than the drops they just incurred for the year. However, even if the Ps2 matched last years numbers (which again, I don't see why they would) the Ps3 wouold have shipped 12.3mil with a drop of 1.6mil. (Which would mean they would only expect the Ps4/720 to effect shipments by about 800k... which I would think it would be a little higher being the market is aching for new tech)

In short: 12.3million < Ps3 < 12.9million

So, you're saying that PS2 sales might have gone up from last fiscal year?

@Lawlight

And now did you still believe PS2 was discontinued? 3.4m is only PS3 shipment? The best Q4 for a PlayStation console ever?

Remember... Sony never said that stopped the PS2 production.

Yes. Discontinued production does not mean all stock disappears.

They said operating income will be flat for the next fiscal year for the Games division due to R&D costs. So, it's not going to be anywhere near the PS3's level.

In fact Sony showed $2.8billion loss in the last fiscal year... that was the only number we had but in this fiscal year Sony splited the Game Division again and provided the last fiscal year number and I can fix the numbers.

That a good thing because the $2.8billion loss was because the Vaio, TVs, etc and not the Game itself... Game Division is profiting since FY2010.

I guess the number are better for FY2009 and FY2010 too but I will never know because the Divsion are merged too and the only the last document provided a comparision with the last year but not the others previous.

So look at the FY2009 and FY2010 numbers with a  grain of salt

Stock? They are manufacturing PS2 yet... here in Brazil (manual) Sony not stopped to build PS2.

I didn't know that, thanks.  Quite pleasing to hear.

Although I obviously care about the company as a whole, I'm much more interested in how the games division is doing.
