Forums - General - Does anybody have any experience reviewing movies or shows?

My web designer is still hard at work on the "An Unbiased Review" website and we are thinking about doing both movies and games.  If anybody thinks they might like to review some movies or shows contact me.  Game of Thrones would be a great show to review right now :)

No, I do not, but maybe others do. Bumping to support your cause! Offer to pay people and then people will be jumping at this amazing opportunity!

Well I appreciate you bumping my thread :)

is there any money in this?

There's no money in running a text content site off ads alone these days.

Not at the moment sadly.  If we end up taking off though I will be paying people.  Sadly it may never take off as being a success.  Either way we are currently in the works of talking with CBS to get on metacritic.  That for me is cool so the people reviewing may get there work on metacritic if things works as planned

Why not? Especially if you give the people what they want.

No, I literally mean that generic ad rates are so low as to not cover hosting costs on that kind of thing. You need to have specific ad-buying power, or have a subscription model as well. Look at how well free online newspaper sites are doing.

So if you want to make money, you cannot hope that clicks get you what you need. You actually have to go out and promote your site to potential customers?

Yes and no.

Depends on your popularity.

If you are getting over a million hits to your site in a day, you will be able to make several thousand a month in ad revenue. But if you are only getting a couple thousand hits a day or less, you will be lucky to make $100 a month or so. Less than a couple thousand hits a day is where you fall in line with what Soleron said.

I can't really give you good examples as I don't develop websites and the like, I do mostly android apps. However, I can tell you that with about 15,000 android app downloads you will only be making about $30-40 a month in ad revenue. Now if you hit over 1,500,000 downloads, you could begin to make a modest income of $3,000 a month. It is not very sustainable though, unless your app constantly gets new downloads or is very high in replay value.

If you are ever lucky enough to get 10,000,000 downloads, you will be healthily making some good coin. Though most apps on android that make money are ones that push you toward buying in-game items like coins/power ups/etc that are not necessary to play their game, but helpful or speed up your progress to a degree. That's where the real money is made. You make something addicting that people will buy into.

I'm leaving the advertising to my web designer.  I wasn't planning on making a website and he saw potential and said he was making it.  I thought he was joking and the next day bam he had a rough draft of the site.  He has already put some money into the site.  He told me he will do the advertising of it etc.  he is highly intelligent so i dont know what he has planned.  He is pushing for video reviews right now which will be a big difference for me.   I gave him part ownership of it since really this is his project more than it is mine.
