Forums - Microsoft - 'Halo 4' team to consider micro-transactions for cosmetic items

Digital Spy

Halo 4 could introduce micro-transactions, it has been revealed.

Executive producer Dan Ayoub said it is currently "looking at" how Gears of War offers bonus cosmetic items for a small fee.

"I think Halo certainly has the potiental for those kinds of things," Ayoub told Digital Spy.

"We don't have too much to talk about in terms of our plans down that line, but it's certainly something... we've seen the fans of Gears are enjoying, and if it's something we think our community is going to enjoy, it's something we'll seriously talk about."

The release of the 'Castle' map pack this week completes the Halo 4 season pass, but Ayoub suggested that more content could be on the way.

Fan feedback will help decide the game's future, he said, but added that "anything we do will be pretty deliberate".

"Obviously our commitment is always that we're going to make sure there's something for people to do on Halo, whether it's playlists, or new maps or new content, something like that," he explained.

"We can't say too much about the specifics we're planning, but what we can say is we don't take that commitment lightly, and people should keep their eyes open for cool stuff."

Black Ops 2 recently introduced micro-transactions for customisable weapon skins, reticule shapes and calling cards.

Halo 4 has been played by more than 11.6 million unique users since launching last year.

A May release was recently confirmed for live-action series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn on DVD and Blu-ray.

The 'Castle' map pack, which adds three new maps, Achievements and a multiplayer playlist, launches today (April 8).

It could work. It's only extra crap that isn't at all necessary for in game play. As said in OP, Gears does it and quite well.

Fans of gears of war are enjoying it? Its part of the reason I left the franchise.

i think its a little late for that. at this point it wouldnt bring back many and those few there i doubt will buy much for something that will most likely not be bc with the 720 anyways. But if it is then good for them but i doubt it.

It actually makes more sense in Halo than it does gears. Halo has had weapon skins and customizable armor for quite some time. Gears was never about that crap until gears 3 and it has completely ruined the tone of the franchise. Gears used to be dark and gritty, but now you have people running around with neon pink lancers.

Halo on the other hand, always had that silly Saturday morning cartoon vibe so that kind of crap would be right at home with halo.
