Proof positive that studios with great reputations and excellent track records can introduce new IP at any time and get solid gamer support.

In that respect I think SSM made a mistake with GoW ascension. Like it or not it's a less well received game than the rest of the GoW franchise. SSM should have taken the massive good will of GoWIII and given gamers a new world to play in, at along with that solid multiplayer. There's probably still a good amount of good will for SSM going in to PS4 as long as their PS4 game isn't GoW.

There are a few things I gather from this. The first is that the game is probably overtracked - I believe this is the case. And the second is that it has high preorders at the moment because it was announced much earlier than Uncharted 3. So it seems somewhat understandable that its preorders are matching Uncharted 3. At this point, Uncharted 3 had been available for pre-order for a fairly shorter time.

This is illustrated by the way the two curves differ from each other. The UC3 curve appears to be concave up while the TLoU curves appears to be concave down. If this trend continues then in a few weeks the lines will cross and UC3 will overtake TLoU. Also, I think a higher proportion of TLoU buyers will be more informed gamers, so a higher proportion of sales will be pre-orders without necessarily having high legs; similar to games like hardcore RPGs which can have high pre-orders and low legs.

Those are good pre-orders though and I do expect the game will be a success (around 3m, give or take 500k), but I doubt it will be comparable to Uncharted for several reasons.

You think it will have a launch comparable to Gran Turismo 5? People seem to call your prediction crazy for a reason :D

The thematic of The last of Us is more appealin' to me... I hope it'll do better than Uncharted.

Thing about uncharted 3 is it's NA sales are about the same as Europe sales. I do not see Last of us doing as well in Europe as NA. So my minor prediction is it opens lower then uncharted 3.

You expect the Last of Us to open up 42% higher than Uncharted 3? I'd definately give you a launch of 1.0 - 1.5Mil, but to me 2Mil seems to be too high. Even more kudos to you if it turns out you were right, though :D
