That's an absurd statment considering that CoD is milked far more than Halo and yet has so many more people playing the multiplayer (plus Halo 4 has been selling very well and will outsell Reach at least). Halo 4 MP may be a flop but it's definitely not because of "milking".
It really boils down to a few things. 1. No skill ranked playlists: This was by far the most requested thing with Halo 4 but 343 decided to sit with their thumbs up their arses and not include it. And their pathetic half-assed attempt of implementing it this month is useless since you can't even see your rank unless you go to Halo Waypoint. A skill based ranking system is what made Halo 3 and is why people kept coming back in droves years after it's release. 2. Halo 4 glitches: Halo 4 is probably the worst Halo when it comes to glitches, people cheating and general bad network design choices. 343 really screwed things up with their terrible lag compensation system and couple that with rampant cheating and you have a lot of people who get turned off by that and won't play because of it. 3. CoD is "it": Call of Duty is obviously far more popular so when people play MP games together their choice will almost always be Cod because that's what their friends will be playing.
People are obviously willing to try Halo MP games still because most people have a soft spot in their heart for it (you can see this because both Halo 4 and Reach had fantastic starts for MP population) but both the last Halo games have had so many issues that people are really getting turned off by it. If they don't get Halo 5 right, the Halo franchise may be in for some rough times (in comparison to how well it usually sells) Personally despite all of these negatives I still love Halo 4 MP. I have the most fun with it out of any MP game I've ever played. But I can see why so many hate it.
Fun fact: Halo 3 had a higher daily peak poplulation 3 years after it's release (even though MW2 was out) than Halo 4 has right now, less than a 5 months after it's release. In fact even a couple months after Halo: Reach was released, Halo 3 still had about the same amount of people online as Halo 4 has right now. It's quite sad to see my favorite MP game fall so far. |
This should have been the OP really.
I agree with this pretty much and I'm sure most people would at least be able to recognize these all as valid points. On the other hand the OP is just like a bad N4G article then we have ethomaz with his usual anecdotal references that only make sense in his head with prime agenda at making anything Xbox look bad.
Could have been a good thread, instead we get this :/
