1. I have never had a dependable internet connection since I got internet in 2001 across continents and via dial-up, DSL, and cable so I never get how people act like always on is no big deal. I lived in metropolitan areas with millions population and still an issue.

2. I love playing game against people. Multi-player can be a joy. However, my experience online is those people are the minority or very quiet. What I experienced in my attempts are spam, gibberish and staggering amount of racist homophobic ignorant insults. So, commnities have been hard for me to find and until I ever belong to a decent one in a game that view will hold. (Online gaming experience has been action, shooter, simulation and sport titles)

i also have a rather crappy interent connection but i still love online gaming, mostly in shooters like killzone and uncharted. i always mute everybody though and i dont have a mic to talk to people with anyways. for me its not finding a good community, but rather finding a well desgined game that is a lot of fun to play with other people

The joy, to me, in playing with others is the others as much as the playing.  I love football (soccer) but if some...unpleasant folks wish to play I have no patience to be bothered wasting an afternoon being around them.   I'd rather kick the ball around alone than deal with that scenario.  So, in gaming if who I am interacting with might as well be a machine I have no reaction to winning or losing.  I had massive Mario kart parties as a kid and the joy and adrenaline in those races and battles was great.  Make it online and it'd just be some random people then I ask "what's the point in online play if it offers nothing I cannot get with AI"?  Also, no lag or connection issues so its better actually.

i get what your saying, and i understand your point of view.

though i have to say that there is something you cannot get with AI, ill be using killzone as an example. in killzone i can play warzone with AI, though its really boring, one of the awesome things about killzone online is that it has a dynamic feel to it, warzone missions are given out randomly and assassination targets are picked randomly as well. with AI they are programmed to fight and use tactics in a certain way, but with others its always different each time, the tactics are different and the game flow usually is different, and thats what i really like about online games

I love multiplayer games almost as much as singleplayer. Multiplayer games that I enjoy are usually shooters like bf or cod. Reviewers do seem weird on the subject. I noticed sometimes they knock it for not having a multiplayer mode yet also knock some games for having one too.

I prefer online gaming to be honest but i also like story. You know how the saying goes "If you are bad at something you dont like it" ;) Yeah that is my theory haha

From my experience though online gamers dont journey forums to often.

Ya some gaming sites seem really hostile to people who enjoy mainly online gaming especially shooters.

well i can say a reason for that is because mostly gamers on forums are the gamers who been gaming for a long time, and as i said in the OP,  a lot of those people do dismiss online gaming

i think a big reason for that is because of CoD. its just cool to hate CoD and the online aspect of it is pretty much why people buy the game every year

Yeah, people hate call of duty on the internet but then again it has also been the most addictive military shooter on the market.   They are good games (regardless of all the bugs) and is why people love them. Battlefield has been challenging it as of late though.  Id like to see Call of Duty upgrade its engine though.  It is also interesting that in recent years good multiplayer games are the ones that are selling the most

Call of Duty
Halo
Battlefield
GTA even had a great Coop
Minecraft
Castle Crashers
New Super Mario Bros
Mario Kart
Even Little Big Planet brought in Play, create, share which could also show people socializing with one another

Im sure im missing some but all of these games have a great online component and has sold well.  This is what i like to think as the social effect.  People complain about Kinect, Wii, Move being social but Multiplayer takes friends and gets people talking to each other into buying games so they can have fun with each other.  Im not saying social as in not hardcore (I actually believe multiplayer gamers are some of the most hardcore gamers)  but Im saying it as people socializing with one another

I feel like the majority of gamers who have been gaming for multiple years (across a few gens or maybe literal decades) game not because other people in their life do (or not only because of that) but because they actually enjoy it. There are exceptions of course but many online focused games are less about fun gameplay/story, etc. and more about competition - which can be fun for some people (quite a few people) but is not fun for everyone.

Basically it's a preference thing, not everyone is going to enjoy the same things you do, that's something you have to just get over. You are in good company however as online gaming is very popular and only growing in popularity - across all forms of gaming really.

You can probably tell that I don't really enjoy multi-player(especially online) but I recently played Dungeon Defenders which was a blast and much better multi-player than single player for instance.

Systems Currently Playing: WiiU, PS3, 3DS

Also Have: Atari 2600, NES, SNES, PS1, N64, PS2, Wii, GB, GBC, GBA, DSLite, DSi, Android (RazorMax), iPhone (4), iPad (2)

online competitive shooters like CoD or Halo won't last a long time for me, not unless I play with a couple of friends
