I'm not about to say Microsoft is close to going out of business, but Apple and the Mac is starting to become a real threat. As more people need a new computer and will do anything to not get vista, Mac's market share will grow at a faster and faster pace.

Over the last two years microsoft has lost around 3.6% total and 3.1% to Mac. In December Mac gained more than .5% of the total market. Their growth increased 1/6th of all of its growth inthe last two years in the last 31 days of the year.

What do all of you think? Is microsoft going to be in trouble?

P.S. I am one of the people that got a Mac in december 2007, and I am ver happy.

MS is far from being in trouble, but I'm glad to see a monopoly cracking open.

Hopefully, Windows will be further eroded by Linux and there will be serious OS competition for the first time in about 20 years.

I think that Mac could hit 10% by the end of 2008, and will definitely hit 10% by the end of 2009.

even though I'm not a Mac person, I really want Apple to stick it up at Microsoft. I want a better Windows, more protection against piracy, and a decent Games For Windows, rather than just bullshit

 Why exactly do you want more protection against piracy? Every protection scheme is just a disadvantage to legitimate users, and a minor inconvenience to those who pirate (need to wait for a crack) and usually the pirated versions end up less restricted due to the protections being removed.

 Also, if Microsoft started to lose a significant market share, I could see WGA disappearing. It is well known that Microsoft's current dominance is partly due to the fact their software has been easy to pirate, and a Microsoft executive has also been quoted saying that if you're going to pirate software, it might as well be their's.

That said, I would definitely like to see BOTH Apple and Linux taking a decent amount of market share.
