The federal reserve is a private bank. We borrow from them and we owe them a shit load of money. It's not our gold any more it's theirs.

It really isn't.   The leaders of the federal reserve are appointed by the government.

Furthermore any profits higher then the "dividend" get paid annually to the US Treasury.   I don't know any private buisness that willingly surrenders all it's profits to the government.

Last year the government got 88.4 BILLION dollars from the Federal Reserve.

The Federal Reserve is closest to something like Social Security if it were run by the Supreme Court.

 

That along with the claim that the Federal Reserve prints money are the two biggest myths about it.  (The US Treasury actually prints money.)

 

That said... the Federal Reserve could eaisly  pay off the entire national debt.  That would however set a HORRIBLE example... greatly weaken the federal reserves.... well resevere.


It would lead to a larger and more unsustainable debt problem down the line and weaken our currency and our banking system.

 

This is why countries who have taken over their central banks have failed... and generally failed rather quickly.
