Forums - Gaming - My BioShock Infinite Review/Impression (Spoiler Free)

It's true I've always been skeptical of FPS, and I tend not to like them at all. The only FPS I have enjoyed is ironically, the original BioShock.

My reaction to this game is... Wow.

I will just toss my only complain about the game right here in the beginning. The lack of manual saving was irritating, yep, that's it.

My main issue with the original Bioshock was the combat, it was too easy and there was no point on swtiching from the wrench and the electric plasmid, there was no incentive for using the guns or any other plasmids at all. The combat was redifined and perfectioned here. They gave meaning to the auto-healing while leaving you vulnerable but not weak when you break it. You can now try all sort of combat options and you have to adapt to make it all work. The Vigors, as they are now called, are more versatile and give you tons of options.

The other new draw to the gameplay is the SkyHook, it's an absolute blast to ride it and gives you lots of enjoyment. It's beautiful and useful. The final thing that makes this game much better is Elizabeth. She is a really important part on the story and on a gameplay perspective she is very useful and gives a new dimension to the combat. She will supply ammo, health and salts when you need them, but she willl also create robots, hooks and cover to aid you in battle.

The presentation is masterful, it's one of the most beautiful games I have ever played. What's the point of a million polygons if it will look bland and boring? Well, fortunately, this game is gorgeous and has some really nice locales. The music is just as effective and will draw you into the amazing world of Columbia.

The Bioshock games have been known for the amazing settings, and this one is no exception, in the start, you go to a lighthouse and then you are tossed to the magnificent world of Columbia. It's so beautiful and breathtaking you will want to explore it.. all of it. You start to wonder what could be wrong with this place, I start to feel I will just ruin it all and run the place to the ground. Afterwards, you discover it's not the candy cane land you originally thought, and the story develops from there.

This is where it gets awesome. Instead of going to specifics, I'll just give you my thoughts of my experience.

I get feelings of guilt, I get confused and my jaw drops by all the emotions and development. The characters are all really strong and exploring the world and watching how it develops is absolutely magnificent. It's the best setting to any videogame, ever. The way this game wraps up is also beautiful, I will not spoil it for you, but you will adore it.

It's rare when I have these feelings of awe and emotion. This game has given me all of that. I probably won't sleep just thinking about it. It just leaves me thinking of that fantastical world and all of its twists.

Hell, I have never felt this magic in a game since I've been a kid, it brought it all back. It's hands down the best first game I will play this year, it's the best fisrt person shooter I have ever played and the best PC game I have ever played. Go get it, right now. You shall not regret it.

Bioshock Infinite is amazing.

Around the Network

Reading this makes me want it even more.

This game is a masterpiece. After giving it some thought and playing the game a second time I actually consider this game to be better than the original Bioshock (the first one is still a masterpiece), there something about this one that captivates me more than the original.

This one will go to my top 5 best games of all time, maybe 4 or 5, haven't decided yet

Nintendo and PC gamer

I thought the start was amazing. I had a great time taking my time and exploring the city.
Then the game suddenly forced me to commit a brutal murder with a blunt looking triple hook thing and turned me into the normal mass murderer type again in the span of seconds. Not long after Doom's fire imps enter the stage followed by dark interiors with flickering lights, really...

It's good to read that it gets more interesting again as I have only just reached Elizabeth after a long run of the mill corridor shooter sequence with the weakest back tracking side quest ever. Funny that the radio announces that I am responsible for 8 deaths, more like way past 50 by now... Why does nobody talk and simply start shooting...

The setting, artwork, and sound are all great which is what keeps me interested together with the little snippets of information/story lying around. It would be nice if there was a save and quit, instead of your last check point was 20 minutes ago, keep going or lose all your progress.

From park to Elizabeth: 7
