Razer Edge Pro preorders shut down after high demand
CEO Min-liang Tan reveals existing stock of $1,300 Windows 8 gaming tablet have been sold out; base model still available.
An overwhelming demand for the $1,300 Razer Edge Pro Windows 8 gaming tablet has forced the company to shut down preorders for the device. Razer CEO Min-liang Tang broke the news over the company's Facebook page this week.
"We've had to stop taking pre-orders for the Razer Edge Pro as the preorders have gone beyond our foreseeable manufacturing capacity (i.e. all stock is sold out for the months to come)," he said. "We're doing all we can to get manufacturing lines up and running so please bear with us. We're doing everything we can to get more units out in the coming months. We appreciate the patience."
The $1,000 base Razer Edge model is still available to preorder, though stock is "very limited," according to Tan. Preorders for both Razer Edge models opened on March 1.
The base version runs on Windows 8 and includes a 10.1-inch touch screen, an Intel Core i5 chip, an Nvidia GT 640M GPU, 4GB of RAM, and a 64GB solid state drive. The Pro model features a faster Core i7 chip, 8GB of RAM, and either 128GB or 256GB SSD.
Various peripherals for the Razer Edge will also be available upon launch later this year. Most relevant to gamers is the Gamepad controller, which is now an optional feature for the device. This add-on (pictured above) features two controllers with backlit action buttons and analog sticks. This peripheral will retail for $250.
Other peripherals available for the Razer Edge are a keyboard dock ($200), a docking station ($100), extended battery pack ($50), and a 65-watt power adapter ($50).
