GameStop boss Tony Bartel has said that the PlayStation 4’s ability to connect with PlayStation Vita will have a positive impact on the handheld’s overall sales.

Sony announced at the PlayStation Meeting that its next-generation home console will share a strong relationship with its portable cousin, allowing gamers to use the PS Vita as a second screen.

“With multi-screen gaming continuing to rise in popularity, I think you’ll see more gamers purchase a Vita to take advantage of the enhanced gameplay offered by PS4,” Bartel told Forbes.

Unsurprisingly, the GameStop executive also backed the notion of a PS Vita price cut:

“We’re always happy to see a price cut! Both bundles and price cuts tend to spur additional sales, so this would make sense leading up to launch," he said.

PS4 will be released in holiday 2013, though it remains unknown if this pertains to a worldwide launch or limited to specific regions.

Bartel confirmed during the same interview that GameStop will open up pre-orders once a price point has been announced, which the firm hopes will be this summer.

Multi-screen gaming is not "rising in popularity" fast enough for people to buy a Vita just to use it. A price cut and more games worth getting would be a much better tack.

Sony needs to do everything they can to sell it as a separate entity worth buying on it's own, not as a $250 PS3/PS4 accessory.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

While i agree with you, i think the connectivity won't hurt. And there is always a chance it could catch on at some time. I mean motion gaming was a gimmic and then came the Wii. So you never know what product or feature might ''hit'' all of a sudden ;)

It will help a little.

It will definitely help its sales, especially when the Vita hits $149 in a year or two. If the PS4 is a big hit, and Vita gets some more great games of its own, I can definitely see the Vita becoming the handheld of choice in the US and EU at the lower price point.

Honestly, i don`t think it will make a difference. PS3 already lets you play your PS3 game on Vita. At least that`s what i remembre from a comercial.
But even if it was something unique to PS4, can you imagine how much the PS4+Vita bundle would cost just to stream games to play on Vita?
Nintendo already tried to connect GBA to GC and it didn`t work. It isn`t the same type of proposition, but it´s close. And even with the popularity of the GBA, it did nothing for GC sales.

This is something that will matter for those who already intend in having both consoles.

Vita will be able to stream nearly all PS4 games.
Vita can't stream any PS3 games.(well maybe like 1 or 2)

If the PS4 is very successful, most if not all PS4 games are compatible, the feature works well (easy to use, little lag/latency), and it's promoted well, it will have a moderate impact on sales.
