Interesting, how good is the game? I'm a huge fan of the Persona series so do you think Persona fans would like this game?

IDK. Some seem to like it, others not so much. Raidou 2 is great though and made a lot of improvements.

Also it's not like Persona outside of the demon/Persona fusing. You might still like it though. I like both series.


If it still has a good story and soundtrack then I see myself liking it. My favorite part of the Persona games is the soundtracks, they give the games a great atmosphere.

Just noticed a D-Arts Raidou up for pre-order also. Nice to see them pushing these games, they're probably the black sheep of the PS2 SMT titles, but very under-appreciated.

I'm interested. I always wanted to get into the SMT series, but it feels like there's a lot of different games within the series. Where should I start?

Edit: Also, how much is the above game usually worth?

There's a lot of games but since the majority aren't really connected it doesn't matter what you start with. But anyway, some recommendations:

Persona 3 or 4 - accessible enough and very good games, but very different from the rest of the series. I think they're a good gatway into the series though as long as you don't hate everything else for not being like them.

SMT: Nocturne - pretty much the most popular of the core SMT series. If you want to play a "real" SMT game play this. If you don't know your way around the series it could be a bit tough (I feel the difficulty for this game is exaggerated though when you're not playing on Hard). You can always ask me for help though :P

Devil Survivor Overclocked - I'll be honest and say this I don't think this is really good as a first SMT game...but a lot of people seem to think it is for some reason, and have started the series with the Devil Survivor games. Devil Survivor is a SRPG and there's no dungeon crawling so it's really different, but who knows, it might get you into the series.

Also I remember Soulless Army going for way higher but it got down to OK levels recently I think (by OK I mean not like 50-60+). Raidou 2 used to be around $25 but now it's switched roles with Soulless Army and it's very expensive now.

Sounds good. I've started playing the Persona series with P4G and I'm probably going to start P3 FES afterwards.

Hmm, going by what you say, Nocturne seems like the logical starting point. It's pretty damn cheap looking at Amazon, so I might just take the plunge. :P And I don't really mind the difficulty. I like challenges and figuring things out. So I'm guessing these games are all dungeon crawlers (besides Devil Survivor)? Do these games have any similarity to the Persona games, like beating the dungeons within the time limit?

Also, the time limit dungeon thing is Persona-only. Devil Survivor does have time limits but it's more like "if you don't choose to get here by 15:00 and fight this battle this character's going to die." So sort of like Persona, except characters are allowed to die. And by "get here" I mean selecting the option for the battle. You don't explore so you don't walk around and go through dungeons or anything.

So, perma death? :o Also, do you know if Raidou is being reprinted solely because of Soul Hackers? The reason I ask is I'm not sure if I should order Raidou now or later. If it is only going to be reprinted for a limited time, I should probably order it soon. But it seems like there are plenty of sellers on Amazon who are selling it for $30, so idk.

The story is supposed to be good and the soundtrack for the Raidou games is amazing (Raidou 2 reuses a lot of tracks from Raidou 1 btw). Same composer as Persona 3/4 actually (Shoji Meguro). Some songs from the games:

I'll probably get it at some point. I actally found Digital Devil Saga at my local gamestop a while back so I'll try to play that after I'm done with Ni No Kuni. BTW the soundtrack sounds like a classy version of some Persona OST lol

The game was decent back in the day, but it hasn't aged very well. The best thing about the game is the soundtrack, and the story is good but takes a while to get interesting. Combat gets stale & repetitive pretty fast.

I recommend skipping this, and going straight to Devil Summoner 2. Its superior in every way, and you don't have to play the first to understand the story.

I have both the games. I haven't given either much play. It it's from the SMT universe I tend to pick it up automatically.
