Forums - Gaming - Has the Xbox 360 gone the longest ever without an official price cut? If so why?

I dunno about the rest of the world, but in Australia the 360 got a huge pricedrop last year. Like i think the 250gb model went from $399 to $299 RRP, and they shaved $50 off the 4gb. Memory isn't so good. Although to my memory, the Wii had the longest stretch. Wasn't it like 3 years after launch it finally got a price-drop?

You think it to be long and it is, if you think it not, it is not Be patience with it! You will get pay!

Actually the NES launched with multiple bundles / SKUs... $89.99 for the bare bones "Control Deck", $99.99 for the Super Maro Bros. bundle, and $199.99 for the R.O.B. bundle.  The NES one way or another was $90-$100 for a good chunk of its lifespan until the redesigned "top loader" came out in 1993 for $50, so I'd say aside from the 360 it's the longest console without an "official" price cut.

Ah, good catch. Ancient history I guess, I only remember what the Genesis/SNES were like in stores.

This. They need.

They started offereing the 99$ subscription model not long ago. As long as they continue making money there is no need in a drop.  Although it would be nice to see a drop

This.

Microsoft made a stealth price drop, which no one really takes into account.

Both the 250GB Xbox 360 and the 4GB Xbox 360 w/ Kinect cost only $99, if you agree to two years of Xbox LIVE @ $15.00 paid monthly.

By offering a subsidized product vs. a direct price cut, Microsoft essentially avoids having to cut prices.
