You have to understand, this is a different situation. Games are what make a console, no one gives a F if it plays blu-ray or if it has Xbox live. They care for Games, when you have a good game consoles sell (gears of war).

The graphics are also a big factor, dont think that its not. Yesterday there were around 15 kids in best buy playing with wii, and when another kid got out of the line to play ratchet on the ps3, everyone left the wii. The game they were playing was SMG, everyone wanted to play ratchet.
Graphics matter alot, to you it may not since your a "wii only" gamer, but to everyone else it does.

 2008 end of year predictions:

PS3: 22M

360: 25M

wii: 40M

It could even beat the Wii this generation if the old hardware becomes completely outdated early. If the wii sells an average of 15million consoles per year over a life of 5 years=75mil(unlikely but possible), then Ps3 only needs to sell an average of 8mil consoles per year for 10 years.

This whole "10 year" thing really needs to stop. Aside from the fact that it's obvious Sony PR, it just doesn't make any logical sense. Let me give you some examples:

The SNES launched (in America) in 1991. How much SNES hardware/software was getting sold in 2001?
The Playstation launched in 1995. How many Playstation games were you buying in 2005?
The N64 launched in 1996. There sure were a lot of N64 games announced in 2006, weren't there?

The whole thing is laughable. No one was interested in purchasing games for the decade-old SNES in 2001; you were probably snapping up exciting new titles like Final Fantasy X or Grand Theft Auto 3 instead. I mean, why would you care about a decrepit, ancient system so long after release? The Playstation was the most successful console ever in history at the time it came out, but by 2005 it was completely and utterly dead. What makes you think that a struggling console like the PS3 will still be embraced by consumers in 2016? However great it is now, it will be HOPELESSLY outdated by then!

Unless you think that games like Super Mario 64 and Final Fantasy VII are cutting-edge today... because they were brand-new tech in 1996!

The PS1 was discontinued in 2006, and therefore lasted 11 years. The PS2 is approaching it's 8th year and is still going strong. In fact, in 2007 it outsold both the X360 and the PS3. I expect the PS3 to last 10 years, although it is certain that the PS4 will launch several years before the PS3 is finally laid to rest.

No, the PS3 isn't likely to top 100m, but 70m+ is practically a certainty.

@HappySqurriel,
So people are going to buy an expensive piece of hardware to play something which is less flexible or established as something they can already play for free?
299$ is just 50$ more then Wii price.
199$ aven 50$ less.

It is still $299 more than the PC they already own!

On top of that they can download an install the second-life client for free, which is a far larger, more established and flexible system then Home; not to mention that there are dozens of similar (to Home) 3D clients that are available for free on the internet, and the only thing special about Home is that it is on the PS3.

you seem to think that everyone is limited to traditional gamers, they care about graphics, but the new markets that Wii is tapping doesn't care, if they did they would be gamers by now, but they don't

I'm not a Wii only gamer ...

Last generation I owned a Dreamcast, PS2, Gameboy Advance and Gamecube (and I typically have an up-to-date gaming PC)
This generation I own a XBox 360, Nintendo DS, Wii and have an up-to-date (albeit getting outdated) gaming PC.

I know (for a fact) that graphics really don't matter because most of the gamers I have ever known do not fall into the Graphics Whore Core Gamer group; this is why the PSP can produce graphics at an unprecidented level for a handheld system and the majority of gamers still choose the Nintendo DS.

@Avinash_Tyagi,

No I said it had casual gamer appeal, the guys who like to buy sports titles and such, I said that Wii goes further and gets the nongamer casual, you know, the people who never gamed before or gve up gaming
There are around 120 000 000(120 mln.) gamers which bought PS2.
Maybe there 300 000 000 casual non-gamers on the market, which will go for wii, BUT 80 mln. casual gamers is still a LOT.

@Devilstation,
I don't think PS3 will ever reach 100mil.
so, why do you think, that MOST people DON`T care about THAT MUCH stunning graphics? =)

@Avinash_Tyagi,
And like I said those aren't many, you named 6 titles that doesn't give a large diverse library
THAT SAD, you DIDN`T NAMED games,. which will come in 2008-2012. And now i CAN`T agree with you. SAD. =))

@HappySqurriel,
Did gamers care when Microsoft's XBox was far more powerful and produced nicer graphics than the PS2?
They CARD about BEST games, BESt experience. That was on PS2, THAT will be on PS3.

Actually Gran Turismo's attach rate was less than 15% crazzyman
CAN you PROVE that people who bought Gran Turismo 3 and Gran Turismo 4 are SAME people? GT4 sold less then GT3. That means NOT all GT3 owners bought GT4.

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

@happy squrriel

Which is why I stated games are the most important part in the decision of buying a certain console. Which is why we have the DS destroying the PSP saleswise.
You also have to consider alot of factors, graphics are one of them. I wont get into to much detail since its not my job to explain to you on how the consumer thinks.

 2008 end of year predictions:

PS3: 22M

360: 25M

wii: 40M

No, the games won't sell PS3s, not it won't sell well.

A 50K bump at the most. Also does this sound familiar.

20.000.000 at 250$ ======)))))))))))))).

@azrm2k,
80-90% of the PS2 userbase didn't play those games.
ALL OF`COURSE NOT.
20% played Gran tursimo 3 and 4.
OTHER 10% played FFX and FFX-2, FFXII.
PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT TASTES. THEY BUY DIFFERENT GAMES.
why you don`t REALIZE THAT?
Casuals DON`T buy 20 games per year. They Buy 3-4 games per year. One buys FF, OTHER buy MGS, and OTHER buy NFS, and OTHER takken, and OTHER socom. DIFFERENT.

See Crazzy this is why you were banned before. Arguing with you is worse than hitting your head against a brick wall. You will quote one line I said and ignore all other information I posted.

I specifically stated "Even if those userbases have no overlap whatsoever". Clearly I understand people have different tastes and buy different games. Read my entire post before finding one line you can quote and then start spewing your own circular logic with.

And now I see you want ppl to prove that the people who bought GT3 were the same who bought GT4??? Well if we can't prove that the fans of that series had the loyalty to pick the next version how can you assume they'll buy a new console for the next version? I eagerly await your predictable high-res screenshot along with some cheesy line like "Becaus PS3 has HD graphics and real life experience =) =) =)"
