As if there ever was a doubt. Sony is always focused on the core gamer.

Thats completely false. PSX and PS2 relied A LOT on casual gamers and had TONS of shovelware.

Wrong. The PSX and PS2 were about 60/40 when it came to their libraries. the Wii have like 20/80 shovelware.

Those estimation you take out of your ass dont change the fact that the majority of PSX and PS2 owners were casual gamers.

On 155 million console sold it's normal to have a lot of casuals but what was really good about PS1(PSX is another thing dude) and PS2 is that they had games for everyone... from the hardcore to the casual, everyone cold find his type of game... the same can't be said about the Wii, that's the difference. ;)

Excuse me? One, PSX was the name of the prototype of the first PS Sony console, and that way was named by the industry until the redesign of the same came out. Your second paragraph doesnt even make sense, at least you agree PSX/2 were driven mainly by casuals (GTA is casual). AND im not comparing it to Wii, we all know Wii is the casual heaven.

So tell me why Sony released in Japan another product called like that? oO

It seams you are not informed so next time do a little research ;)

PS1 is no more a prototype so why call it with the name of another released product? :)

This has already been discussed, ask Pezus or Ethomaz for truth. PSX was the codename for the first Sony console, and had that name until PSone redesign launched.period

Around the Network

Yeah I clearly remember magazines and sites abbreviating the PlayStation as "PSX". Guess it sounded 'leet'.

Only much later it started being called PSOne.

True but it's also the official name of that DVR device that i think has more relevance than a prototype. ;)

BTW... The first two playstation had a wide range of gamers so you can't say they were in majority casuals... and why the comparison with the Wii is wrong? Should i compare them with apple and oranges? XD

If I remember the PSX was used by the game community and press because "X" is a military symbol of some sort meaning "station" (that is a guess) but Sony itself used officially the PS codename.

Sony used PSX officially for a PS2 media center released only in Japan.

Anyway PS1 is weird and just used close to PS3 release.

For Sony the official denomination was always PS until the release of the PSone... Gamers and press would have called it whatever they want but that doesn't change the fact that the official abbreviation was never PSX. :)

Wii being more casual friendly doesnt make PS1/2 less casual friendly.

Wii being more casual friendly doesnt make PS1/2 less casual friendly.

But it's splitted differently... PS/PS2 wasn't more than 60% core 40% casual, Wii it's like 80% casual

For me it's a big difference lol
