Just beat Ascension. Took me 9 hours on Normal. Didnt rush it imo, looked for chests etc (and yet was unable to full exactly all weapons though ugh.. although I did max health & magic).

Will make a thread later regarding my thoughts but if I was to like score it without going into too much detail:

A game that sadly lacks narrative and has a story that doesn't reach its potential. Despite that, it is a great game. - 8/10

Cool, looking forward to that thread.

Updated!

EDIT: CHANGE THAT! I havent actually played MP yet aside from the Beta which I know is great. So we're easily talking a 9 here (unless the MP is even more insane which it probably is) xD

EDIT2: With that said, the campaign was an 8/10. With MP itll go up. But with GoW3 and previous entries: The campaign alone really put it to a 9-10 standard for me. So yeah.. worse campaign (slightly) but MP does kinda make up for it.

But yeah, make a thread probably tomorrow or friday. Got an exam on friday so might put all my effort in that tomorrow.

Sweet! Looking forward to it, and good luck!!!!!!

Wellll ..... let's generate some discussion, and we'll see how it evolves. We might get a few branches from a the tree.

1) What games do you intend to get from here on out between now and the year's end? Make clear your day 1 titles too.

2) And .... realistically speaking, do you intend to get PS4 this year?

Gears of War Judgement

The Last of Us (Of course day 1)

Beyond: Two Souls (Day muthafkn 1)

Grand Theft Auto V (PS3 day 1 or PS4)

Watch Dogs (PS4 day 1)

Assassin's Creed 4 (PS4 day 1)

Killzone: Shadow Fall (Day 1)

Tearaway (Day 1)

Killzone Mercenary (Day 1)

Soul Sacrifice (When i get bored)

Puppeteer (Day 1)

Until Dawn (Maybe)

Rain (Maybe)

YES I AM BIASED, HALF MY GAMING COLLECTION IS SONY EXCLUSIVES

Hehehe … your list is a mirror of mine, with the exception of a few things.

Day 1s include the following

-          The Last of US

-          Soul Sacrifice

-          Tearaway

-          Beyond: 2 Souls

-          Rain

-          Puppeteer

-          Killzone: M

-          Castlevania LoS 2

The next Xbox PS4 is a definitely buy for me this year, so the games I plan to get are

-          Killzone: SF

-          DriveClub

-          Knack

-          Assassin’s Creed IV

-          Watch Dogs

-          inFAMOUS (Assuming it is a launch title … either way I’m getting that bitch day 1)

-          Any good cross-gen PS4/PS3 game I’ll get on PS4

My ‘I want these games but meh I’m not getting them on day one so probably late 2013’ list

-          Until Dawn

-          Bioshock Infinite

-          Rayman: Legends

-          FIFA 14 (PS4)

I never bought a console at launch before, so I’m a little worried about bugs. That’s my only gripe really. Price is not an issue.

And to other members in the nation ... .let us know iuf you are buying PS4 this year! If not, when? What are the main factors? What PS3 (and if applicable PS4) games will you get this year?

How would you rate it compared to the rest of the series? Would you say it comes in just before GoW 3?

Eek, exams D:

I'd rate Ascension lower than GoW3. Lower than GoW2 as well. Maybe even lower than GoW1, yeah.

Ascensions intro and finale is amazing. The first half kinda feels cool aside from the lack of "motivation to proceed". You're not even sure why you're going where you are entirely. But the game still amazes you with its spectacular stuff.

But halfway through it and the motivation still hasnt entirely built up and you start to feel its getting a bit tedious. You -want- more. You feel something is missing.

The whole second half kinda from where the second demo at E3 starts was where I started getting a bit down on the game.

The puzzles in my opinion were surprisingly cool and pretty difficult at times. I am not used to puzzle games in general and Ascension kinda wowed me in that regard. Not a fan of puzzles but I can recognize well made ones. As you progress and get items: The game really uses them in amazing ways.

The graphics were fucking mindblowing. Really blew me away at times. Very consistant too unlike GoW3 which had the Garden of Hera look a bit out of place to mention one area. Framerate was great despite a surprising amount of enemies on screen. I mean wow many at times.

Sound was remarkable. Theres some glitches here and there but I noticed that putting the sound to Headphones, lowering the voice to 80 and keeping everything else to 100 gave the best effect. I did not USE headphones but for some reason that was the best option to use. The extra "oomph" really existed but I had to play with it to get it.

Music was great too but the tracks were a bit lacking compared to say, GoW3. Still great.

Minuses:

The biggest issue is that the story is kind of.. well "meh". After the intro, it goes into a flashback. It feels like ascension is doing a prequel to all games which is telling a story BEFORE even ascension ITSELF in the mean time. Its just.. wtf xD.

But I did enjoy it. I just wished for more and a more story driven narrative with a even greater conclusion. It does end well though and that final boss is spectacular.

Another big minus is the lack of bosses. I think I can only count like 3 that I remember. Intro and Ending were the best, the rest (..other 1?) was eeh.

I did not have an issue at Trials of Archimedes (I died once) and didnt really feel many hard parts. The game in general makes you ready for tough situations as the RAGE meter you have really requires you to master dodge and not get hit. I played on normal also.

Took me 9 hours. Maxed out health and magic but not all weapons (close though).

Campaign 8/10

I'd rate like GoW3 a 10, GoW2 a 9.5 and GoW1 like a 9 in comparison.

But Ascension has MP which brings it up. But the campaign wasnt on par. It was still very enjoyable and great.

Fuck I should be sleeping!!!

Been playing the multiplayer on and off between the other GoW games (need to catch up). I beat Chains of Olympus the other day and God of War 1 yesterday. Right now i'm on Ghost of Sparda.

The multiplayer is pretty fun actually. Been using the spear exclusively, havn't tried out the other weapons yet.

We should really have a multi-quote button here lol That's awesome! Keep at it. I started Ghost only a few days myself, but with school I held up a little. So I'll play it and Ascension simultaneously. Hope I don’t mix shit up lol

Yes we should! Yeah, I'm really surprised by how good the PSP games are. I was afraid playing either GoW3 or Ascension before finishing the others would ruin it for me. Not the story (well yes in 3's case) but the gameplay and visuals as I expect them to be better in the PS3 games.

Those games held up well, surprisingly. Chains had me sweating on the hardest difficulty and it was very enjoyable. It was harder than 1 and 2 for me. Ghost is shaping up to be very nice as well. I had similar fears but I guess their longevity is a testament to Ready at Dawn’s dexterity and the technical prowess of the PSP. It was a really competent system in its day.

Yeah they do. I've yet to play any of them on hard though (i'm a pussy muahah) as I wanna get through them to catch up with the story. I might go back and try the more challenging modes after i've played ascension.

haha no worries mate. Whenever I start a new series I try the normal setting. It is only after I attempt hard with the later installments - assuming I have a strong command of the mechanics. I like hack and slash games so DMC, GOW or NG is hard for me right away. I SUCK at shooters since I never really played them until this generation. I like to think I'm Japanese at heart. So whenever I start a shooter I hit normal first and then attempt the harder difficulties after. Shooters are MUCH easier on PC with the mouse, so playing hard is no biggie there.

Well thought out, I can't wait till I play through them all to see how I feel about Ascension myself. Sorry, didn't mean to distract you muahaha.

Oh and they had a chance to really flesh out Kratos in terms of emotion etc.

They just scratched the surface ...if barely even that. I think that dissapointed me the most.

Nope ... they're waiting to finish the MP first. Sorry your shortness. :D

EDIT

They want to try the MP in the real environment before putting up a final review. They gave impressions of the campaign. I get the feeling they'll give it a 8.5 ish score, but we don't know how the MP will affect it. Hopefully by tomorrow we will see it.
