Sadly I'm thinking you are exactly right. I've got my fingers crossed that everyone who watched the reveal will realise that Microsoft was using 360 owners as a stepping stone into the set top box market. They definitely didn't go into the making of the XO thinking "what would be best for the gamers?".

This is very tough time for Microsoft.  They're getting bombarded from all areas.  Windows Mobile 8 phones are selling poorly.  They have no setop box to compete with Google or Apple  (Until Xbox One gets released).  They're tablet offerings are a mess (Windows RT was a terrible idea).  They're solution is this console.  Microsoft is in no bad shape financially, and they never will be, but this console is a huge gamble. 

That's true. I guess by pretty much having Windows 8 on the console, they are pushing the whole ecosystem, so it is a risk they are probably being forced to take. And yes, it definitely is a gamble. If they slip up they ruin the Xbox brand, which is probably their strongest.

To be honest, I feel like MS shot themselves in the foot during the conference and then shot themselves in the other foot after the conference.

There are some serious concerns about the X1. MS sent that thing out to die.  I mean the news today just got worse and worse, and worse. Never saw anything like this. Like i said today, this fail will be legendary for the the lulz that took place.

Well, shooting yourself in the head would mean the console is DOA.  But, I think it will just struggle to keep up with PS4 and probably Wii U because it has a hole in each foot.  :-p

Anyway, yeah I agree.  The conference was going alright, but then all the critical information that they just so happened to leave out came out and all hell broke loose.
