I already gave the Series 9 as an example, but I wouldn't be suprised if reports come back that Surface is thinner, since it seemed like the only tablet on the market who even came close to the Series 9 in terms of sleekness.

the Z tablet is .27 inches thick. How does that compare to series 9?

How thick is the keyboard attachment? You're only using the screen dimensions.
To top this off, the Tablet Z uses a low performance ARM, which is nowhere near the same league as the Core i7 Sandy Bridge.

If this doesn't show you why it's silly to compare a tablet to an ultrabook.....nothing will
ps: This is the slimmest and lightest tablet on the market. If you think this big, you need a reality check OR tablets in general aren't your thing.
