Forums - Sony - How much RAM is the games getting in the PS4?

Quick question... DO we know how much of that 8gb RAM that will actually go into the games? Wii U have 2gb RAM, but only 1gb is used for the games... Considering all the features Sony has implemented into the PS4 (playing games while downloading, sharing videos etc) I think it's safe to say that games won't use the whole RAM, so the question is - how much RAM is available for the developers to use?

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

we don't know

I guess 1-2GB might be reserved for the OS at start (that number will drop with time, just like the OS footprint got smaller and smaller on PS360)

The rumor was that it will use 512MB for OS. But even if they use 2GB it would still leave 6GB GDDR5 Ram for gaming...that shit is craaaayzy

RAM is not going to be the limiting factor even if 2GB is taken up.

I would like to see the technical explanation for DDR3 vs. GDDR5. They are distinct techologies with advantages and disadvantages, it's not like one is just better.

half of it could be used by the os and only half available for games and it will still shit all over the Wii Us 2GB total RAM and 1GB allocation for games.

Not all definately, the GPU also doesnt have it's own ram, so it takes a cut from that 8gb

And that small chip that works on the background prolly reserves some too.

And we have no idea what kind of OS or system they want to use, could use little, or could use a lot.

It really depends on the OS. The rumors for the 720 had it using Windows and needing at least 2 to 3 gig for the OS. If PS4's OS is more streamlined it may leave more space for games...though the point is moot, memory will not be an issue with this system.
