Forums - Gaming - holy shi! ps4 8gb of GDDR5

I remember reading on GAF about people being really happy with the PS4 supposedly having 4GB GDDR5, and now it is 8GB?!?! :-O

Well done Sony.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

Hehehe naysayers are a joke unless they are worried about price.

8GB GDDR5 ram is amazing! Nothing on PC comes close to being comparable.

It's good but its not mindblowingly good as people are talking about it here. In the end of the day it is just ram. The graphics card and its shaders are what makes games look pretty.

This is coming from a hardcore Nintendo fan-

Nintendo totally lost. I've tried my best to defend them for a long time, but wow. They introduced a new controller, and don't get me wrong, I own a Wii U, and it is an awesome console.

But God, Sony brought WAY more to the table. They have so many little things that make this thing look like it's going to be awesome. Also, for whatever reason, Nintendo didn't choose to go with next gen graphics. That's it, the Wii U is going to have a ton of first party support, and then probably not much else. They might be thrown a bone every here and there, and maybe even get some special 3rd party games that don't need a lot of graphics. Other than that, they will probably come in last place this gen.

I also, like you,  defended Nintendo a lot last year.

The proof is in the pudding. Wii u sales are bad. The system is weak. Many people are not interesteed in it.

I am really worried about Nintendo because as it stands, wii u is looking to be the poorest console they ever released.

What third party developer will want to work with a weak, poorly selling console? The power gap between wii u and PS4 is immense, far more than I ever imagined.

they really don't give  single console ownersa choice, its like taking a honda over a ferrari, sure you get mario and zelda which are great but you miss out on the nextgen experiance, sony excusives and amazing third party games.

you can have the best gpu in the world but it would be useless with out plenty of fast ram, they go hand in hand.

My PC came with 8gb of GDDR3 ram, an i5 processor, 1TB of memory, and on-board graphics. I paid about $560 for it. If the PS4 is cheaper than that, they can take my money tonight.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

Wait so how good is that exactly how does it stack up against the Wii U is it better or no?

Tell me you...

Wii U: 2GB slow DDR3
PS4: 8GB ultra fast GDDR5

its basically

krillen = wii u memory

SSJ4 goku = ps4 memory.

More like

A farmer with a shot gun in the world of DBZ = Wii U memory

SSJ4 Goku = PS4 Memory

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

1TB of memory?? You mean HDD. 8GB GDDR5 probably cost more than your PC.

I am not goading you. I am just thinking how much this PS4 thing is gonna cost.

Exactly. You can have the fastest, top of line ram in the world but that would all be useless with a crappy GPU. From the looks of it the GPU of the ps4 will be equivalent to maybe the 7850-7950. No reason to get excited for that amount of ram or speed since the GPU will be the bottleneck.

Im not an expert but it seems to me that Sony will be unneccessarily increasing the cost of the console with that type of ram with not much return on performance.
