I think it is a fairly pointless question, because both companies are fairly consistent in one regard. They continually tamper with their formulas. They actually used to taste fairly different from one another. Coke used to be sweater then Pepsi. While Pepsi actually used to burn a little bit on the way down. Now both of them have substituted out the real sugar for things that do have a after taste like corn syrup. Cut the caffeine content down to almost nothing, and barely carbonate their drinks anymore.
Both of them are watered down messes now. Pepsi almost figured that out not too long ago at least where I live. They actually put out a variety names throwback, and it had actual sugar instead of corn syrup, but it actually tasted off, because they didn't up the carbonation and the caffeine content with that product. Had they done that I would have been in heaven. I really miss those old Pepsi burps that could clear out your sinuses. Hell I miss the old Coke too, and the tickling way it went down.
That said I have found a couple good substitutes in Root Bear, and Orange Soda. For whatever reason those two varieties of soft drink have hardly been touched, and they still retain the kick that used to make Colas so good.
