do u think these features will be on psn or plus. i think the later. now the youtube upload is cool. would help be post my moves on 2k lol

I'm honestly expecting Gaikai BC to be free. It allows them to market it better and makes a sticky situation well, less sticky. Gameplay recording and other features like that though will probably be in PS+ since people would want to pay for them. PS3 games on Vita could also be in PS+.

you mean wouldn't mind paying for them.  would also be a smart move on sony part.  everybody would want to upload videos so theyd have to get + to do it = more money .  ive been saying forever when all the live bashers were babbling about paying for a service sony should have followed early on.  not like what they did for plus they couldnt have done  early on.

Around the Network

Excellent news if true.

I'm personally not that keen on the idea of streaming games. Mainly because my internet connection is not that good. I hope they give you the option of downloading streamable games so that you have the option of putting them on your hard drive if your internet connection is not 100% reliable.

Here is MY problem.

"PSone runs on the PlayStation 2 through emulation rather than actual hardware. PlayStation 3 will offer the same compatibility for PS2 software and the format will continue forever,"....Ken Kurtargi.

This guy believed BC was an absolute HAVE TO in order to keep people locked into the brand during the transition from one console to the next. Now all of a sudden, we get no PS1 AND PS2 compatibility and only get PS3's in a limited way via streaming? Come on. I plan on getting a PS4, but I'm not into the whole "lets strip something out just so we can resell old games later" way of thinking.

What are you talking about? PS1 and PS2 emulation is expected. Also the only other way to get PS3 BC would be sticking 90% of a PS3 in the PS4.

Where did you read you'll be able to play PS1 and PS2 games on the PS4? And I don't think it's an issue of cost. Sony made the "official" statment back when they were removing BC, that is was about cost. But the ONLY reason the PS3 carried such a heafty price tag was due to the BD drive being so expensive. Imo, they removed BC because they had the foresight of HD remakes AND, lets not forget, the PS2 carried a VERY sweet profit margin. If the PS3 continued on as being a wonder machine, PS2 sales would have been cannibalized. Sony couldn't afford that at the time since the loss on PS3 hardware was so great.

They should stick a cell chip in the thing, and whatever marginal loss is a result of that, they should eat. Having a PS4 that could play PS1,PS2 AND PS3 games? It wouldn't do much for the casual gamer, but the core would rejoice. I'm getting one anyway, but it would make it that much sweeter.

PS1 and PS2 can be emulated very cheaply since they are 3 and 2 gens ago. Sony has no reason not to include them and there are no signs that they're being ditched.

No, Sony really did cut it because of the cost. The system was way too expensive and it was an unnecessary feature. The blu-ray drive may have cost a lot more but Sony couldn't ditch it. Also the consumers buying PS3s are not the market for the PS2. If the PS3 had BC, the PS2 would have lost hardly any sales. HD remakes are not geared towards owners of the PS2 versions so again that doesn't make sense. (Also you're assuming Sony who almost killed itself with the PS3 actually had this secret plan all along to make back a couple bucks)

They would need to add a CELL, RSX, and PS3 memory as well as modify the circuit, fan, and power to support it all while making the system bigger. If they only had one model then this could cost maybe $50. However if they wanted a non BC SKU too, it would cost A LOT more for Sony. Sure you and me would want that, but don't we also want the PS4 to sell?

Of course I want it to sell, but I also think it would be an amazing selling point. They've been playing up their history lately, and what better way to segway into FULL BC? I just do not understand how the PS2 was $300.00 dollars, and had full BC it's entire life, and now it's just, impossible. The PS3 had it at launch, so why not the PS4? It's certainly something Sony fans like us have been begging for.

Well I think this Gaikai thing sounds like its supposed to replace backward compatabiltiy for the PS3 games.

I'm not too worried about PS1 and PS2 games. We have access to our PSN accounts so all the games I want are available through digital download. The only thing is PS3 games. PS4 should be Blu Ray so I see no reason why the console won't read PS3 disks and play them through an emulator. PS1 and PS2 games I'm fine with, but I hope PS4 features backwards compatability for PS3 games. I don't won't to rely on this Gaikai service to play my old PS3 games, which I still want to play even when I get a PS4.
