Sorry but its pretty funny reading this thread.

None of you have any idea what your talking about

Sadly the days of specialized game stores are almost over. If blocking used games is not going to do it, digital distribution will.

Pretty much. The economics of depending on physical retail just don't make sense anymore.

But they're still going to be important for several years yet, I think. Whether in the key markets or globally, internet speeds aren't at a level to where most people can treat a 6-7 GB download like it's no big deal. Not to mention that people will be resistant on principle, or at least until they see how pricing shakes out over time (at least in my case). And it's not like Gamestop is the only big retailer or business who'd be upset by this.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

Didn't GameStop recently close 500 locations?

They are hurting regardless of the used game lock rumors. And good riddance.

Wait, don't you live in Japan? Or did you just read all the bad things about them?

One doesn't have to be Japanese to live in Japan! Although I actually am half Japanese so... I guess I should say one doesn't have to be a Japanese citizen.

Tell us your insight, BenV. It would be very useful at this time!

Blocking used games won't hurt console sales, if the console has the games people want, but it will hurt new game sales for just-less-than-top-tier titles. People won't be able to justify $60 on those any more because they can't get any back on trade.

True I buy 70% of my games new but I'll sell them after 3-4 months and put the money towards new games this means I'll buy less games. Also this means without good reviews or demo  I wouldn't buy new games because if i don't like them I can't trade them or sell them

Definitely not a bias poll at all. Hats off to you Gamestop! :P

Hush, hush, Axum! BenV might have something to say. Maybe Gamestop is just preparing for the worst, warning us, maybe? (Or maybe he's trying to say that Gamestop is wrong on this front...)

I am the 40% since I buy all new anyway to support devs.
However making a console unable to play used games is absolutely an atrocious idea and should never be implemented. It would also mean suicide for whoever tried it.

Eh theres no point going into it.  Most peopke on this forum have strong opinions they are completly uneducated on.

Gamestop is the number one retailer for new PS3 sales

The number one retailer for new Vita sales

Last year we became the number one retailer for new 3DS sales.

We advertise the HECK out of new games and hugely grow their userbase.

And yet "gamers" cry out for Gamestop to die because "they sell used games and thats bad for the industry" even though that isnt even true

These gamers are wishing for the industry to die because thats what it will take to kill Gamestop.  The entire collapse of the industry

If true, GameStop and Gamefly are screwed.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

doesnt phase me as generally never buy pre owned plus games generally get cheaper pretty quick what it does effect is when people want to play games that came out ages ago but cant find any more as just picked up lost odyssey and need for speed most wanted for 360 pre owned. But if every game goes digital this wont be a problem.
