We know developing a console game is very expensive these days, and we know that like 90% of the budget goes to paying salaries. There are simply too many man hours needed to develop a game. Imagine you have a 100 man team earning an average $80k a year, working for two years, and you already have $16m there.

Surely there are more than capable developers/programmers in Eastern Europe, India, China... that could do the same job for a fraction of the cost. You could still have Western creative minds in charge of the project in order to make the games appealing to Western audiences, but have these people do the routine work.

Wouldn't that bring the costs down considerably? Why don't publishers do this?

What's your opinion on this? Would this bring the quality of the games down? Is it a moral issue? Do you think it could be a good solution?

You actually need talented workers for video games

You end up with games like DmC and Star Fox Assault.

Am I the only one who liked Star Fox Assault? :(

Nintendo and PC gamer

Better idea: relocate all development to Eastern Europe, where there are skilled workers that speak English and prices are still very low.

Are there not talented people in other countries? Wasn't The Witcher a good game made with a lower budget, for instance? Surely not all talented people are Japanese, European or North American.

Well, that was pretty much what I meant.

Why keep the creative element in the US then? Witcher, Arma, Stalker, Metro 2033 show that all of the work can be done there.

It will happen one day, it'll be just like how all our clothes used to be made locally, now they are all made in china.

Those developers were Japanese/Western.

Just for those concerned, really. Having a few old employees in the team for consulting, but not necessarily for all games. Maybe something like TLoU wouldn't be possible without some ND members, or Mario without some old Nintendo magic. I agree I wouldn't mind giving them a chance though!
