This is not for me. My sister is wanting to buy a notebook that is powerful enough to play Skyrim. She wants to spend about $500. Any recommendations?

Your best bet is to look for sales.

I've seen laptops under 500 that had Nvidia GT 640m and even a nice Samsung A10 APU + 7670m GPU in crossfire for 599. Best buy clears a lot of laptops.
