Forums - Gaming - how many units will PS3 and 360 move after next gen is out?

Please list separate numbers.  Let's assume for the question's sake that they both come out in November this year.

I'll say PS3 will be at about 79 million by that time.  I think it will reach 100 million by the time it's taken off the market (PS2 sold about 33% after PS3 came out but PS3 has been out longer so I'll say it achieves just 25% of its sales as a legacy system).  It still hasn't reached $200 which is crazy so it still has a lot of room to grow and many Americans I know (since I live in America and all) are waiting for it to get down there or lower to play all the awesome exclusives.  Not to mention Sony sells in a lot of markets and is known for supporting their systems the longest (they said till 2015 at the least for PS3).

For 360 I see it reaching about 79 by the time November rolls around and I expect it to top out around 90 million.  MS didn't support Xbox very much but a lot of Live titles will continue to come out since they don't require that much hardware and it still has another price cut or two eventually.  It doesn't have the exclusives to get people to buy it as a second system however and the American market is saturated which is most likely to get a second because of the economy in Europe (and generally being a smaller market) and the hate for MS in Japan.

don't bump your thread man, thats not cool.  People are probably just sick of discussing this, as there has probably been over a hundred threads on this topic in the last year...

^this

We don't hate your thread, it's just a pretty bare bones question. Try specifying it like how many will Ps360 sell in 2013 or something. I mean we don't even know if the consoles launch this year for sure.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

PS3 ~30m

360 I don't know.

I doesn't matter, the next gen started with the Wii U.

The next gen started years ago on the PC.

Hmm, what generation was that? The multi-core generatin or the 64bit CPU generation or the PCI express generation or what? How do you even divide PC "generations"?

It's like one long never ending generation with mini upgrades all collecting into a stream of evolution. PC is off in PC land, when people talking about video game generations they are talking about home consoles. If I asked when fresh apples will be in season you wouldn't tell me oranges have been in season for months would you?

360 will die quicker than PS3. Microsoft will not support 360 with 1st party games but Sony will much like PS2. We should see simultaneous release of Fifa, CoD for few years too which will increase the lifetime of PS3.
