Im going to go with price and games (first and third party)
The price for a vita is not justified IMO. $250 is not cheap and the cost for the mandatory memory card is $100 for the biggest size and with only a measly 32gb, which is a rip off on so many levels.
sony needs to price it right and market it right
VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

You know your company is in trouble when the CEO mentions your company is crunching like munching on Doritos potato chips. There is no Dorito brand potato chip. Doritos are corn tortillas chips in various flavors.
I have a feeling if both the new playstation and xbox are released around the same time then one is going to dominate the other, I just cant see the majority of people paying for both this next generation for along time.
Of course price will make a difference but if they are similarly priced its going to be interesting.
Each have bigger fanbases in different regions but i just have a feeling that is not going to matter this time around. imo for the type of games and graphics they play, xbox and playstation have been too similar and if this next generation is the same again then people may choose which ever becomes the most popular
the quickest

That is a very interesting take on the subject and something I may have to think about

Looking at existing sales of PS3 vs. 360, if Sony prices PS4 at a similar level to Xbox 720, I can't see how MS can stand-out without dropping Xbox Live fees, or adding some revolutionary new features, or having a mind-blowing 1st party line-up of games. PS3's sales were undermined significantly by launching 1 year late and being so much more expensive. Without these 2 disadvantages, especially if PS4 also has a more powerful graphics card and maintains a superior library of 1st party games, I don't see Xbox 720 being as attractive. Also, if Sony improves online functionality with cross-party chat, etc. many people could start evaluating the value of $50-60 Xbox Live fees on their next purchase. Since PS4 will be easier to code for than PS3 was, developers are unlikely to whine the same way they did about developing for PS3, which should again take a way a key advantage Xbox 360 had over PS3.
They just need more Giant Enemy Crabs, Ridge Racer, and for it to be 599$ again. I'm sure they'll win with that formula!

I agree with a lot of what you said, sony is certainly in a much better position than they were with the ps3 and imo the most important thing being launching on time.
imo though i still believe the majority of the public will continue to see the new playstation and xbox as very similar consoles so sonys better off position may not matter much, even if the 'ps4' is more powerful it wont show much with launch games and by the time it starts to show the majority of consumers could be siding with the most popular console.
If the two consoles start another generation with the image of being very similar then because of the global economy I believe that aside from the early hardcore adopters, one console will become more popular than the other whether it be from certain launch games, a peripheral, online feautures or something unique i dont know but i think the old term 'hd twins' could be a downfall for one of the next consoles.
