Just wondering, as per title, whether we've got any people who played Command & Conquer: Renegade back in the day who are following this new game? Or just whether any of you guys had heard of it and were interested in it.
Command & Conquer: Renegade is an extremely old PC FPC developed by Westwood set in the C&C Tiberium Universe. The single-player mode I found was nothing special, but the multi-player online gameplay was not only some of the first I'd ever played, but honestly - still to this day some of the best. It mixed vehicluar combat, base defence and class-based first-person shooting so perfectly together in a formula that I've never seen replicated quite the same to this day (Starhawk came close, but didn't quite get the same mix that made Renegade so great). It was never the most tactical, or the most balanced, but I'll be damned if it wasn't masses of fun.
Renegade X is supposedly a UDK-developed indie game based on the original Command & Conquer: Renegade. I must admit, I have stages where I follow this project and then lose interest in it again. A few years ago it was supposed to have been released on Unreal Engine 3, and I'm not sure if that ever made it out into the wild or not.
The new UDK version is supposedly bringing things such as bot support for offline play, a skirmish mode, new original maps as well as returning ones from Renegade and so on. And it's shaping up to look pretty nice at the moment:
Anyway, contrary to the general tone of this thread I am not actually involved with the development of this title in any way, I just noticed the recent updates I had missed and thought I might as well make a VGChartz post about it to raise awareness and see if there was anyone else about who was interested in the title. Apparently, the multi-player mode is going to be released at some point in 2013, and I'm going to make sure I don't miss it this time around (like I missed the UT3 version). If it even captures 20% of the magic of the original Renegade, it'll be an absolutely awesome title.
