Forums - Sony - PS4 to launch in JP and US in 2013, and in EU 2014? More powerful than x3ox and with small touchscreen in new controller?

Ya know what... I completely forgot abotu the OUYA controller as it already does this in a DualShock format.

its actually the other way around, nintendo releases weaker hardware to keep the price down so they dont go head to head with sony. when they go head to head sony crushes them. case in point PS1 vs n64 and PS2 vs gamecube. nintendo knows they need to make them selfs different or they will get crushed. the PS4 will be this powerfull so it can provide a leap from ps3, if it didnt provide any significant one people will flock to xbox720 or continue buying ps3

This is actually a very interesting discussion. I will agree that that used to be the case, and that's why we got the Wii. But now, when 3rd parties have gone multiplat... Just look at how MS went head to head with Sony, and did it VERY successfully. It's all thanks to multiplats. Now, imagine if Nintendo made a console equal to that of Sonys and MSs - THAT'S a fight I wanna see! Nintendo hopes and believes that WIi U will have enough power to do just that; me, I'm not so convinced...


but you forgot one very important thing, brand image. lets be honest nintendo is looked at as a company that makes games for kids. sony is looked at as a company that caters to adults, the avarage gamer is about 30 years old so that means more gamers are adults, by a far magrin too. its also why xbox became successful, its because it managed to make its brand image as a company that makes game for adults 

Yes, you are absolutely right; brand image is very important - but don't forget nostalgia! Most of those gamers grew up with Nintendo, so if they get good 3rd party support that could spell their success..

trust me that nostalgia has little effect on a system's sales i would have gotten the 3ds, wii and wiiU by now but i didnt, peopole dont buy new consoles to relive old memories but to create new ones. probably every member here grew up with nintendo, but look at how many of them stoped and would not buy a console becaue they liked nintendo in the past, of course this is just an example. but

Which means no backward compatibility (BC) with PS3. I wonder if there will be BC with PS2. Shouldn't be hard to do.

Fix the title, it says touchpad, not touchscreen. there's a huge difference.
In my opinion touchpad is a much better choice since it doesn't distract from the TV. You'll naturally be able to make gestures to navigate menus or whatever. I just hope the controller looks cool and it has rumble.

Sony is starting to get a lot of parents who grew up with PSone and 2 now though (like 100 million) so we could start to see them getting the benefits of that as well.
