Summary:

Skulls of the Shogun is an interesting experiment in cross-platform gaming: it's a multiplayer strategy game available for the Xbox 360, Windows 8, Surface, and Windows Phone, letting you play with your friends no matter which device they're using. While the limited success of some of those platforms could impact the game commercially, there's at least good news for those who have bought into Microsoft's ecosystem: Skulls not only works across several devices, but more importantly, it’s also a great game. It blends a charming and absurd sense of style and humor with gameplay that manages to be both accessible and challenging — it's the rare strategy game that actually works well with a controller.

Anyone try it yet? I just downloaded it for Windows phone and will give it a try on the subway back home from work.

Will post impressions after.

Around the Network

Alright so I got the game on Windows phone and spent some time with it and its awesome. Best Windows Phone game in months... Will probably get it on Surface/Windows8.

Only thing that sucks is that you have to buy 3 versions and you don't get a discount if you buy on or all 3.

Windows phone - 4.99 (absolutely reasonable price)
Surface/Windows 8 PC - 9.99 (priced normally)
Xbox Live Arcade - 1200 pts/ 14.99(highway robbery)

They really need to bundle this better for people looking to buy all 3. Standalone price for games is fine but something along the lines of 19.99 price for all 3 platforms would be ideal. It's all bought through the same Microsoft account so it should be doable.

So to sum it up:
Game - Awesome
Cross platform play idea and implementation - Awesome
Game pricing - Needs work
