Forums - Sony - If the PS4 is not B/C with the PS3's purchased online wares, I will need to be compensated.

Or you could just keep your ps3?

When I want to play ANGRY BIRDS on my new IPHONE, do I need to keep my old IPHONE 3G or GSto play it?

When I buy a new computer, and when I want to play HALF LIFE 1 & 2 from Steam, Do I need to break out my old rickety computer out of the ol garage to play those games?

I have no doubt that PSN only games will be supported since they all are lower end games as most are multiplatform anyway. But the bigger retail games could end up being left in the dust is Sony doesn't go with a Cell compatible chip like is rumored.

As for me, I always keep my consoles so while I find backwards compatibility convenient it's not a deal breaker because I can always pull out my old system. With that said, there aren't many PS3 exclusives that I've ever felt the need to replay so I'm not sure if I'll even feel the need to go back during the next gen. I'll definitly want to replay games like the Mass Effect and Portal series but I didn't get them on PS3.

The problem i have is... even well maintained, modern consoles seem to break easy... at least the Sony ones do. (I believe the original Xbox dies pretty easy too right?)

While my Bally Astrocade, Atari, NES and SNES work...

Neither of my PS2's work and my PS1 doesn't work....

I'd be shocked if my Ps3 worked in 4-5 years.

It's one of my big reasons for shifting to PC gaming.

Of course B-C is ideal, but do you intend on keeping your ps3?

Dont care really....I have played those games and if I truly want to play them again they will be on the PS3...I will be to busy playing the new games on the PS4 anyways

The only "entitlement" I would feel is ps+ games running on ps4 since that's a service. Games I bought have no need to work on ps4, even though I'd want them to.

Oh definitly I'm totaly with you. I think backward compatability should be in every console and handheld. In fact I believe my 3DS should play my original Gameboy games. Unfortunetly these companies have found out that if they drop backwards compatability they can sell us the games we already have digitaly. But since there are tons of games that will never get added to the Virtual Console I keep my old systems, going back to the Atari VSC, TI/994A, etc. for both nostolgic and practicle reasons. But with that said I maintain a large set of emulators on my PC and keep track of new emulation programs and advancements. I know one day I won't be able to find the chips to fix my Atari 800 XL and some day there won't be any more Dreamcast GD-ROM Drives or Xbox DVD drives to part out. I keep my systems, but one day I'll need my Playstation emulator for more than just convience and to see what MGS looks like at 1080p. I'll be forced to emulate my NES to play Yo! Noid.

I wish backwards compatability was an industry standard instead of an afterthought, but the digital download age is here and I think it will kill backwards compatability. For now I'll use my old systems and when that is no longer viable I will emulate my games. I hope to never pay to download an un-enhanced game that I own a cart or disc of. Thanks to emulation I won't have to.

As for you switching to PC. Yeah that's fine. My gaming PC lets me play anything I want, if it's on PC. But Halo 5 will be on Nextbox so I'll need one of those and I doubt I'll be able to play the next Zelda on my PC. Picking just one side isn't an option for me.

If it is backward compatible with the PS4 then I'll sell my PS3. If it isn't backward compatible with my PS3 then I'll keep my PS3.

... That's it really.

Are you serious? Do you know how much space the GB cardreader would take up in the 3DS? Don't mistake me, I'm really positive towards BC, but once something has to be sacrificed for it I draw the line.

Take good care of your PS3 and just use that.

I do believe that all systems should run the games from their predecessors. I know it would be difficult, but it could be done. The Gameboy Advance SP was smaller than a 3DS and it could run GB and GBC games. The DS couldplay GBA games and the GBA slot was the same size as the original GB carts. I don't think a GB/GBC/GBA slot would add much to the size of the 3DS.
