Forums - Sony - If the PS4 is not B/C with the PS3's purchased online wares, I will need to be compensated.

Who said you had to throw your Ps3 away? If you want to play a PS3 game.. Play it on a PS3. Then play a PS4 game on PS4.. It's really not that hard.
Any games I brought online on PS3 if they don't work on 4 il just keep them on my Ps3 HDD.

the give me give me generation. There not obligated to compensate you for nothing.

Ps1 and Ps2 games will be able to work on Ps4 for sure. But there is a very big chance they will not be able to emulate the ps3 on the ps4.

Aww, there is nothing left to add. :(

Well, no, you're not entitled to compensation, as no game you've bought on PSN has ever listed "PS4" as a platform it would work with. You're not going to get a refund. However, you're fully entitled to feel disappointment and anger, which is what I would probably feel, and to take your business elsewhere as a result.

Where have you heard it suggested that you won't be able to play PSN games on PS4, though?

We don't know yet.

But what is known, is that without a CELL PROCESSOR, it will be incredibly difficult to emulate PS3 games.  Games such as, JOURNEY, for example.

How much more will you pay for BC? Cell will be impossible to emulate at full power with a laptop-power AMD chip as rumoured, so they'll need to put a full Cell in there with other circuitry and that will be $50+.

aren't they coming out with an attachment for that?  I would pay $50 more for a SKU with BC.  I love having just one box under the TV and with HD collections and PSone classics I have no need for the other 2 Playstations anymore.

Alot of responses, so, in turn, I hope you all don't mind this already made response from earlier today from a different forum, which goes to the heart of the matter for me, and to consumers in general (btw, this full unedited response was to someone on IGN, relating to this matter, but the gist of it it still applies here) :

"That's not actually true....Obviously Various Sony systems have been, and some Nintendo disk based consoles have been as well. The first B/C system I remember was the ATARI 7800. But that's not the point.

The point is, is that the point of your sentiment is wrong, because what your trying to say used to be true. Now, consoles and platforms being backwards compatible with their digital offerings is an industry standard.

Since this is really about digital games being B/C (not the physical disks), you would be pretty much completely wrong, because this is the first generation where we've had full fledged digital stores, and every digital platform out there works with successor hardware: APPLE, VALVE, Microsoft (allegedly)....and get this....as bad as Nintendo may be with their online know how, even Nintendo makes sure the shit you buy works....sloppily, but it works.

Do you see what I'm saying and where this could go?
Sony will be the laughing stock of the entertainment industry.
Sony better not be the lone fool that can't figure out how to make their old store stuff work with the PS4."

You are most likely to be disappointed, I think the PC space is the only place where that's not a huge problem these days.

If PS4 uses blu-ray then it really has no excuse but to have backward compatibility with PS3 games

a disc format doesn't make it the same system.  The architecture will be different so it will have to be a dongle or something.
