Simple question.  Out of the games you've played for this gen of consoles, which genre has taken up the most of your time.

For me it has been action/adventure.  Yes I realize that's kind of the "other" genre but from Uncharted to Infamous to Batman to Deus Ex to MGS4 (and the HD collection) to GTA4 to Red Dead Redemption to Assassin's Creed to Heavy Rain I have devoted a lot of time this gen to that genre.  A close second would be platformers with Ratchet, Mario, Zelda, LBP, Rayman, and the HD collections of Sly, Jak, and Okami.  This has been my favorite gen so far (only been gaming since PSone) and I look forward to enjoying some more amazing games in these genres such as Sly 4 (long time coming), Tomb Raider, LoU, Beyond, Puppeteer, and GTA5.

I thought Zelda was action/adventure?

eh I've seen it categorized as both.  There is platforming to be sure but also a lot of combat and puzzle solving I guess.  Could be either.

Isn't it obvious the most overdone genre in gaming FPS after this gen im not buying a FPS unless it's innovative.

the only FPS games I've bought since COD4 have been Resistance 3 (amazing!) and Crysis 2 (meh).  I plan on getting Bioshock Infinite sometime and Far Cry 3 fairly soon since it's already down to $40 on Amazon.

Let's go with action-adventure platforming then ^^

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I haven't heard anyone calling Zelda a platformer...I heard people calling it a RPG but definitely not a platformer.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Easily RPG. I think that's always my most played genre out of every gen, but it seems this one leans even more heavily towards it than ever before.

These were the major ones I played that I can think of:

Mass Effect Series (Several playthroughs).
TES IV & V
Fallout 3 & New Vegas
Xenoblade
The Last Story
Final Fantasy (III, IV, TA2 on DS / Crisis Core & FFT: War of the Lions on PSP, then XIII... oh and XIV for maybe 3 weeks)
Chrono Trigger DS
Dragon Quest IX DS
The World Ends With You
Pokemon (Pearl, SS, White, White 2)

After that I'd say my next 2 most played genres are Platformers & Action/Adventure games.

Going to pick up Ni No Kuni?  I've never been an RPG guy (especially JRPG) but even I'm finding it hard to resist.

how is it an RPG you don't level up.  You could call GoW an RPG if getting new items categorizes it as that.  Then again you could categorize GoW as a platformer since if you consider Zelda one.  Who the hell knows Zelda can be anything other than a shooter (although there is that sling shot...) or strategy
