Forums - Gaming - Does anyone really need next Ps/Xbox in next few years?

Here is some random stuff that comes to my mind.

I have owned my Ps3 since 2007 and it still works perfectly. When I first got it, network was pretty bad, great games were rare etc..

Now I have about 9001 games still in my scope from last years that I still want to play. Then after I have finaly finished those, there is still this year games and so on.

Ps3 and Xbox 360 has got new "slim" models which have improved the console somehow from the old one (no more RROD).

We get updates every month which has stopped consoles from aging so fast.

Both consoles have a LOT of good games, while during last generations, mostly it was only Ps2, console which is still selling for some time.

Wii needed its Wii U "upgrade" I think but I don't think Ps3/Xbox 360 need it, at least yet.

Graphics upgrade was huge in last generations, but I don't think it will improve that much anymore (as we have seen with WII U).

Xbox 360 and Ps3 have their own, secondary controls out there without need of making whole new console (Kinect/move).

So if Ps4/Xbox 720 would come this year, I wouldn't care at all. Well maybe a little.Unless they blow my mind like Inception.

Now if we look some other way this generation..

Developers are still maxing out consoles (even tho Uncharted 2 was said to use 10000000% of the yber cell). They maybe, finally, are just fine with technology of this gens Hd consoles and are able to use their engines on more than just 1 game at 2-3 years.

We have seen many game companies go down this generation (ThQ wtf) because developent costs are so high and some great games just don't sell to the mainstream that easily anymore (I blame the internet).Maybe next games these developers are making will be cheaper, since they have almost mastered the technology in these years.

Big developers are doing pretty good, but even ThQ had to shut down,..Red faction was total failure at least.......I loved the series.........Anyway, we have these indie developers finally making their stand and doing great in the market, even against these big developers. Why should Sony/Microsoft just say "ok lets start from the beginning again".We have everything!!!
So why would we need next gen consoles this year?Or even in next 3-5 year?Games are selling, consoles are selling...We are fine.

Ah well..Are you guys tired of this generation then?

I BLAME WII FIT!..

Take my love, take my land..

Around the Network

I don't think we need new consoles. What I do need is a new better and faster interface to navigate my netflix, ESPN and such from my bed...

What am I saying, Windows 8 took care of that with the whole tiles/apps thing.

No we don't need new consoles at all.

After this year I will have finished almost all of the current gen games I wanted to play. I want something new. PS3s ingame XMB is slow, try sending a message ingame playing BF3, it sucks. The social interactions are very outdated. I want a Facebook like PSN profiles where we can comment on our friends activity.

i dont need them but i wouldnt mind to finally see them revealed

We don't want them, But developers want them.

Around the Network

I first need to finish:

Ni no Kuni
GoW Ascenson
Sly 4
The Last of Us
Beyond
Rain
Puppeteer
+many mp games like Tomb Raider, Aliens, GTA5 etc

before I think about a ps4

we need new consoles especially in the area of an upgraded OS.

just hope the new consoles are hopefully to dev. for hopefully lowering dev. cost.

This year would be really nice. First some huge pricecuts on 360 and then blow everyone out of the water by 720! That would be so awesome!

i don't think Sony and MS need new consoles for awhlie. The graphics on their machines are considered "good enough," which is why their consoles are still puting up decent numbers, in addition to the third parties who feel comfortable developing on them at this point and are still cranking out games. I don't see why this couldn't go on for 2 or even 3 more years. However, that doesn't mean Sony and MS aren't going to rush out their next consoles to compete with Nintendo. I just can't see them getting many sales if they go that route, at least not for awhile. Just think, Nintendo basically NEEDED an upgrade at this point from the aging Wii, and they STILL can't get many sales, so imagine Sony and MS, who don't even need upgrades. I think it would be a huge mistake if they released their next gen consoles this year or even next..
