that's what I'm thinking when do you hear common people (even my brother who really likes games) talk about system specs. They look at games and say whether they look better or not.

$599 US dollars! Although in truth that did help them win the format war so who's to say it didn't profit Sony's other divisions enough to recoup what they lost in market share for a couple years before the price went down.

Nowadays going by a rough Moore's law you would have to release with around 12-16 GB to be spending the same MS/Sony spend in memory back in 2005-2006. Technology-wse GDDR3 released less than two years before the X360; GDDR5 is over four years old now; when Orbis release it'll be as old as DDR3 when the Wii-U released.

The format battle wasnt won on sales, it was won on deals with the publishers. There wasnt enough support for the HD-DVD. Sony forked alot of money for those deals, so i doubt it really made up for it given the DVD is still around.

hmmm ok I see what you're saying. If Sony was really willing to take a $200 loss on a $600 system I wish they would have made it without the Blu-ray and no cell. Imagine the games we could still be getting wowed by. 360 would have looked like a child's toy. Alas twas not to be.
