Forums - Gaming - Gaming hardware at CES 2013 Thread

I was never into 3D even movies like Avatar/Hobbit failed to really impress me. They are great but I want to be inside a movie like right inside of it.

3D gaming is a nice add on but no game changer. But Oculus rift is next gen entertainment. The potential is limitless and with 2 retina oleds 120hz inside it in the future, there is literally nothing that can't be displayed if you have the right software its going to be like Holodeck without touching stuff. This could, in the future, change the world as we know it. The possible uses reach far beyond games.

And it makes me really exited for the next years more so than any console ever could. I will buy ias soon as it comes out. The feeling of life sized monsters attacking you and actually being inside a game must be breathtaking. I am sure it will become mainstream at some point it might take awhile though until Hardware and Software reach a certain level.

I will get a higher res consumer version as soon as it hits the market.

The rest of the list is rather unspectacular imo.

Around the Network

They're all bad to meh.

Wasn't the new NeoGeo portable shown off here? I'd at least be interested in seeing that thing. It might actually sell a couple of units no less.

Why are there a lot of companies suddenly all jumping on board for consoles and handhelds, when everyone is predicting that consoles will be losing more and more buyers with the smart phones. Same goes with handhelds.

It's not that surprising, all generations in the past had these kinds of... 'by-products'. It does seem like a lot all at once though.

No one will deny that Oculus is the one to watch out of these 5. Like you said, the limits of whats technically possible with this technology are quite vast. Regarding the rest of the devices shown, the concept is not as grand in scale but their execution and price may be the deciding factor between success and failure.

One obvious thing about the hardware shown at CES is that pretty much no one out there is interested in building a new ecosystem or platform. Companies are figuring out ways to plug in to existing platforms with new hardware and methods for gaming. Its also obvious Android is going to be a gaming powerhouse up there with Windows in a couple of years. Once a PC-Console AAA game and Android version of that game are identical and have the same release date...
