Confirmed: Splinter Cell: Conviction not coming to PS3

Ubisoft tells VideoGamer.com title won't be coming out on April 1 either.

Ubisoft has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that Splinter Cell: Conviction, announced as a PC and Xbox 360 title, will not be coming to PS3 and will not be coming out on April 1, as previously rumoured.

Yesterday online reports suggested the game was set to appear on Sony's next-gen console - a rumour sparked by UK specialist retailer GAME, which listed the title on its website.

However, speaking to VideoGamer.com today, a spokesperson for Ubisoft clarified the situation, saying the retailer made a mistake, the game was not coming out on the PS3 and laughed off the suggested April 1 release date.

"This is just a mistake by the retailer. The game is not coming out on PS3 nor is it coming out on April 1. We're sticking to the original announcement", said the spokesperson.

The news will come as some disappointment to PS3 owners who had hoped to see the title appear on Sony's console.

In November last year Ubisoft announced that Splinter Cell: Conviction had slipped, with a vague fiscal 2008-2009 (April 08-March 09) release date penned. Unfortunately Ubisoft couldn't offer a more concrete date at this time.

 + FARCRY2 is not PS3 exclusive

Confirmed: Far Cry 2 will NOT be PS3 exclusive

Ubisoft tells VideoGamer.com title is still on for multi platform release.

Ubisoft has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that upcoming FPS Far Cry 2 will not be a PS3 console exclusive, as previously rumoured.

Internet reports had suggested the Xbox 360 version of the game had been canned when website xbox360wire.co.uk noticed UK retailer GAME had removed it from its listings, leaving only the PS3 and PC versions.

The site also noticed that Amazon UK had removed the PS3 AND the Xbox 360 version, leaving only the PC version. Play.com however, continues to list all three versions.

Ubisoft confirmed to VideoGamer.com today that Far Cry 2 will still be released across all three formats and that the retailers had simply made a mistake.

The spokesperson said: "We announced Far Cry 2 initially for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and that's how it stands."

Looks like the inevitable Xbox 360 versus PS3 comparison video is still on then. Far Cry 2 is scheduled for release in Ubisoft's fiscal 2008-2009 (the 12-month period beginning April 2008).

Good find, that's pretty interesting, debunks the "Only the PS3 can handle those graphics" for Farcry 2.

@The new splinter cell,

I figured as much, the developers have been in bed with Microsoft on that game for the longest time and they even stated that when Double Agent came out. Maybe it would be better to say that they announced their intimate relationship around the time when Double Agent went out because of the fluff they say (similar to 'This game can only be done on the PS3').

Still, Splinter Cell isn't exactly my style of game so I'm not really missing out on much, but my room mates love it so I may get to play it yet.

@ Far Cry 2,

I never cared for Far Cry and I'm not really eager for Far Cry 2. However, I will be interested if they ironed out all the problems that made Far Cry so laughably bad.

Still, good that console people get to experience it, but here's to hoping it's MUCH better than Far Cry (or all the other games that came to consoles over the past few years).

Also, Samurai 3 was reported to be canceled as well.

Not coming on april fools?

I get all the Splinter Cells for some reason, probably because people say they're so good and they always get excellent reviews. I haven't been able to really get into any of them and haven't come close to finishing one, so I guess it's not really my style of game either.

Im not gonna even ask who believed it would come for the PS3....

....each console has their exclusives and thats that.

By the way I think we still gotta a see a proper trailer before some people go off about Far Cry 2 having superior graphics. I saw the enviromental trailer, but it was by far too little to actually be as fantastic as described by some, it looked good, and Im curious to see more actual action.

Well it's not that far a stretch to consider SC on the PS3. All the previous SC have dropped on all platforms including GC and PS2. SC:DA even came out on Wii and PS3.

So it's quite different than MGS to 360 as only MGS2 came out on Xbox and a rerelease of MGS came out on GC several years later.  Other than those the series sticks to PS as the home console and is far more of an exclusive than SC.
